Will the Eheim 1250 be good?. Need something that runs pretty silent. Thanks.

I just installed an ocean runner 2500 ($43, ~450 gph at 4', and 65W) and am pretty impressed. I wanted to try it in place of my eheim 1250, because I wanted more than ~150 gph which is what it was giving me. I liked the eheim because it was silent. Well for me the OR 2500 is quieter than the eheim 1250. I'm moving more water now, so I have some noise from the water as it hits the sump, but I am overall impressed with this pump. So I think you would be fine with an eheim 1250, but you might take a look at the OR 2500 as well.

did the same, went with an or2500. almost half the price of the eheim and with the correct 3/4 fitting (for my plumbing).

i was expecting some noise but it is very quiet. not as quiet as my eheim 1250, which is all but silent. the or has a bit of a hum to it but it is far better than the sedra 3500 that is driving the rs80 skimmer.

by the way, the eheim is much smaller than the ocean runner, from just eyeing it seems about half, just in case size is an issue. also, the eheims are warrantied for 2 years with the or just one.

Hey Pomacanthus Rex. Im going to order a RS80. Is the noise really that bad?. What if i put a sponge underneath the pump?.

I can't hear my OR 2500 at all. I hear a slight hum from my eheim 1250. So your mileage may vary. The noise from either pump for me is _very_ low.
