Return Pump Question

I was considering a Mag 12 return pump. Right now I have a Mag 9.5, but it rises on a slant to about 5ft high. I need a more powerful return pump.

It needs to be an in sump type of pump, and I also want the quietest one I can get that will be adequate. I have a 90g reef with soon to be two tunze 6060's providing circulation in the tank.

What is the best in sump return pump for the money?

Ocean Runner or Eheim are both much better choices and I would consider the OR first. Its more energy efficient and costs about 1/2.

Go with a Eheim I had troubles with Magdrives not wanting to start after a power outage or unplugging after servicing. But never had troubles with Eheim.

I can't tell you what brand to get but I read about your problem. I would determine how much flow I wanted then buy the pump one size larger than what you think you need. I always T off my pumps with two valves. One to the tank and one just flowing back into the sump. This way I have much more control over the amount of water I'm sending to the tank without putting to much back pressure on the pump. In the future if you want to add a piece of filter aquipment you allready have the extra discharge and don't have to buy another pump. I run the same pump you have now on my 29 gallon display tank. Not really the answer to your question but I hope it helps. Good luck.

Either a Eheim or Ocean Runner, FWIW I replaced a Mag7 with an used Eheim, other wise I'd have bought an Ocean Runner

I ran a Mag 9.5 on my 90 and it had some noise and I knew it put out heat. I placed a mag 7 in a can mixing water and left it over night and the water got really warm. I knew the the mag 12 had to be adding much more heat than that.
Replaced the mag with a Eheim 1262 and its quiet and runs much cooler just by feeling the pump. Puts out more flow than the Mag did also.
