Return pump

i'd recommend an eheim 1250. You don't want that much flow for a return. 1260 max, but that would be pushing it

i2go One of the nice things a bout Eheim pumps I hear everyone say, is how little electricity they use. And they are reliable

I like that pump and the QO 4000 for your tank. Someone had a Rio 26HF new for sale. Check it out.
More is better.

I have a QO4000HH on a 40RR w/sump and it's just right.

well i have a 1 1/2 inch, (i think) bulk head drain that leads into a 60gallon sump(yes its big). ANd im thinking about getting the ehiem with this 1 inch hose.

Actually im second guessing on ehiem, how do you calculate the drainage of water can keep up with your return pump? Or is it just testing?

I have a quiet one 3000 for sale. $40 only 3-4 mos old. I still have the box. I also have a 4000 hh available soon after my 120 gallon tank is empty. $80

there is a flow calcualtor on RC's home page. I think a 1.5" can do 1500 or 1600 gph but you should double check that number...

You really only want like a quiet one 4000 or 4000hh for a return, then you can add tunze or seios for flow in the tank and hook them up to a batteru backup =)

Ok i dont really know what 3000 or 4000 you guys are talking about, Rios? But...I measured my tank and...
From where my return pump is going to be to my 1inch return nozzle its about 50" And my overflow drain bulkhead is 1 1/2inch. So...I want a pretty good flow, really strong. Because my tank is 48 inches long , and im probably going to have 2 seio 820 and the return for my flow, mabye one seio. But, im either going with the ehiem or...the 4000hh4000 if someone can explain that to me : )
thanks so much!

This is the QuietOne 4000 that they are referring to:

Eheim's a good brand, but do NOT use the 1250 for a return pump! @ 317 gph there's not enough flow to power a protein skimmer let alone a sump return. the 1250 is most appropriate for driving calcium reactors and such; perhaps a nano return at most.

From my experience, you can push upwards of 2,000 GPH through a 1-1/2" drain if configured correctly; not that you'd want that much of course. Nonetheless, you don't need to worry about the drain size.

if your planning on having your return be the main source of flow, then the 1250 is not enough. But if its just the return. It'll be fine

Do you have a closed loop or power heads in the tank. I have a 1260 attached to a SCWD on a 26 and also a fluval 404 and it is not too much flow, so I would say it depends on what else you have.

Hmm true, would the QO 4000 be a good return? It says they have trouble restarting it, what do you guys think?

I don't like QO. I had 2 and they were both loud and failed in a few months. I seem to be a minority here, but that is my experience.
