Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

Sorry it didn't work out man. Your tank looks great though. How much damage are they doing? Is living with them an option? Did the coris wrasses help at all to keep them under control? Now I sound like my 4 yr old with all the questions. haha

Still looks great......hope you get past these AEFW. I think you are making good decisions.....sometimes the cure is more costly than AEFW. I read about aquarists finding AEFW and then going crazy with treatments only to kill the corals them selves.

Thanks Bro! Just started getting a funny feeling and that was enough for me. We'll see how things pan out over the next few months..

Man sorry to read about your aefw woes with this beautiful tank of yours.
I truly hope you can somehow beat this setback.:(

Thank you! for the compliment and the well wishes..

Hey Man, Thanks! The way I see it Brett is that much of this hobby is trial and error.. They really haven't done much damage at all other than my Milis. Had I known what I was dealing with earlier, I would still probably have the two colonies that I lost through basting once or twice a week during days when I hold back the food from the fish... I do think that you can live with them, I just think you have to be diligent with dipping any new corals, don't put any coral attached to rock or coral with a dead base in your tank. In addition, I would not use any rock from anyone's tank that has SPS until after it has sat for more than two months or so an only if there is no encrusting SPS... So, basically, dead rock is the way to go.. You can colonize it with the good stuff yourself! As for wrasses, I think they have been the main reason why the AEFWs have been kept at bay in my tank... I will continue to keep wrasses and support the theory that they really help..

Jon,
Sorry to chime in late but, what about exploring the natural route and pick up some of the flatworm eating Nudibranch. They will die once the tank is empty as that is all they feed on. Hope to one day meet you in person!

Cheers
Rob

Sahin,

Thanks! I always appreciate your.kind comments. Loving the aquascape change in your setup!

Rob,

I haven't looked into that option at all. I will.definitely do some research, but some reason, I.think they will only be effective on planaria. Thanks for the sughestion. It would definitely be great to meet yoy one of these days. If I find myself on a canadian trip in your area, I will be sure to link up with you!

Flat worms, Sphhhhh!!!!!, that tank looks amazing.

Thanks Bro! Your build is looking awesome!!!!

If flat worms make your tank look that good....than I want some@!!!!

Lol I need to pump the waste water from your tank into mine. The colors are crazy man.

LMAO!!! You guys are all hilarious!!! You seriously made my night! :lmao:

I did a wc tonight and basted. I noticed maybe two small AEFWs, no adults, which is a good thing since it is my understanding that they don't munch coral until they reach their adult stage! I just have to keep on-top of the basting.

Dang, I missed out on my waste water. I think u are putting something special in the water to get those amazing colors. What salt are u using?

LOL! About a month ago, I switched over to Coralife salt. I always heard great things about it. So far, I like it. With this tank, I attribute the colors to great lighting. These ATI powermodules are the truth when it come to achieving a great colors!.. I think MHs take the cake on growth speed and natural formation. IMO, I would have to use more midday bulbs, which have a yellow hue to them in order to rival the growth of MHs. Also, low nutrients via carbon dosing and flow. Trust me, you would not want my waste water

I have to agree, since switching to my ati sunpower I actually can notice coral growth week by week. One thing I noticed the other day is that I'm running to many blue specials. I am thinking of switching from two blueplus, one purpleplus and three blue special to three blueplus, one purpleplus and two bluespecial but worried it will slow down growth. What do u think? Also curious if u have considered switching to biopellets to avoid carbon dosing?

I think it will slow growth, but you will get deeper colors. It's almost like when MH users switch to radiums. I'm ok with the slower growth when the corals are healthy. One thing I've noticed with T5s on a whole and especially with the higher k spectrum bulbs... they need to be changed more often than the 12 month time the manufacturers recommend. I waited 12 months with my last set of bulbs and as soon as I changed them, I started noticing growth spurts within days!

As for the Bio pellets, I can't justify the cost when vodka and vinegar are so cheap... I think that if I didn't have my doser, I would consider it though.
