forward thinking of course. i don't want to waste money on stuff i don't need, like my learning experience w/ my 75. that's why i was curious about the vortechs, heard great things but they are a bit pricey. for the price of 2 vortech mp40w's, a guy could get 4 koralia 4's and the 4 way controller. i know koralia's aren't in the same ball park, but money is always an issue. just an idea i've been tossing around.

rireuter, You would probably want to go with a closed loop on something of that shape. Is it going to be a Peninsula tank?
corner tank. i was thinking of having all 4 koralias on back wall pointing same direction. i have the koralias in my current tank on the same side pointing in same direction and i get a nice undertow effect. actually got the idea off of the vortech website. if at all possible i would like to avoid going close loop just due to the fact that i would have to have a large pump to get the amount of flow i am looking for.
I currently have both of my MP40s on the same side and they do produce awesome undertow with that configuration.. When I add a third, I will probably place it on the back of the tank because I don't want to see any wires on the viewable side.. The company rep recommended to place them on any opposing side.. So far I'm happy with both on one side. They create a barrel-like effect with the flow pattern in that the flow blows out high and then returns low and then back up through the propeller hosing again.

True, you would need a pretty large pump if you wanted to go completely closed loop. What I was thinking is that you could do something interesting like draw the water from under the rocks, and return it in the front bottom. To compete with that, you could have Koralia pumps on the back two panes. I would think this would give you a pretty randomized flow pattern.
Are you going to be doing a build thread?
::Edit:: My boss uses the non digital Koralia controller at the LFS on a 240. I didn't really see a difference in that and the regular koralia pumps.
I would save for a Vortech if you want interesting controllability.

Hey Jonathan, Welcome back! Sorry to hear about Dad, but I think it is so cool to remember how he liked your tank helped inspire you to get back into the hobby and do a new tank.
I am now running a 200 marineland with starfire glass (48x36x27)as my reef and I love it. I'm running it with 2 IceCap's t5 retro's in their 660 ballasts. Each fixture has 4 54w bulbs and my colors are looking great as well as the growth has just started taking off after about 7 months.
I am also running my old 120 as a FOWLR with your old Maristar fixture. I may get rid of this soon though since I'm only using the t5's for the fish, don't really need or want the 250 Mh's.
I have to tell you, going from my old 2x150w MH and 2xHO fluorescent fixture to your maristar brought out some nice colors that I was thriving for, BUT the new T5 setup is really kicking! If it wasn't for the IceCaps, I would have gone with the ATI PM like you. I am kicking around the thought about getting one more fixture for the Reef. All is going well, but I wonder if it will be a waste or be on the cutting edge and give me more! LOL MORE POWER! LOL
Anyway, enough about me, sorry for the hijack, just wanted to say your tank already looks great, you are going to love those T5's. I'm tagging along to this thread and really looking forward to the progress and growout. Keep up the great work and welcome back. Maybe we could meet again someday and swap some frags!

Afterthought, I'm sure you may have heard, but My local club NJReefers is hosting Macna in Atlantic city in September with many seminars, hands on workshops and vendors selling/showing off their stock. I am really looking forward to the whole experience in learning and stocking up on some great deals and I'm sure you'd love it too. Look into it if you haven't already.

Hey Taz! It's great to hear from you.. It's also awesome to know that you're still going strong with the hobby. I'd love to see some pictures of your new tank.. I totally feel you on the T5s. They are truly amazing with the right bulbs and good cooling... I was speaking to a buddy of mine and we were actually thinking about heading down to MACNA for a couple of nights.. It would be great to catch up with you, have a beer and talk tank! As for the signature, you know the inside joke to that! LOL!!!

It should be all clear now.. I'm looking to post some equipment updates soon. I just received a Profilux stand-alone dosing unit and I'm currently waiting for a Neptune Apex controller to arrive. Getting ready to go on a much needed vacation and I really want to make sure that the tank is covered while I'm away.. So much of my time in the hobby has always been spent tweaking this and tweaking that.. I'm finding out first hand that keeping my hands out of the tank and letting it do its thing is one of the best things you can do for your reef... Plus, this time, I'm getting to enjoying it more by watching and observing versus doing all the time...I think I'm becoming an automation freak. :lol: which has its worries as well know..
