Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

I would probably go with 3 blue +, 2 ab specials and 1 Fiji pink or purple +. That should come close.

Darn I was afraid of that. I fear losing growth as my sps are a long ways away from colonies. Maybe I'll live with the look for another year then switch to the bulb combo I asked about. Thanks for the info about the higher K bulbs. I'll most likely switch them around the 9 month mark, hopefully that should be good unless u think it needs yo be more often? One thing I am going to switch is my damn/dusk for sure. Love the look of the purple/blue.

I've done a lot of thinking about this as it pertains to SPS tanks lit with T5s.. Ideally, I think it would be best to grow the corals out using a mixture of midday and 10K bulbs... this would get you great growth, but the color would be less than desirable... This is also taking into consideration that you have loaded the tank up with frags.. Once the they grow out, switching over to the higher kelvin bulbs would then color them up quite nicely. However, one would require the patience of Job to do this.. I think 9 months is a god time frame to change out T5s based on my experience. The blue+/purple+ or Fiji pink dusk/dawn mix is beautiful IMHO.

jon,

tank looks awsome! keep up with good work bro....

Thanks Mike.. Hopefully it holds on and keeps going. I will be watching it closely until I feel that I have gotten most of the Levamisole out of the system. Let me know if you need anything at all...

Somewhere I read about someones frag system where they had 400 watt 6500 or 10k over one tank to grow out the sps fast and then moved them to a 20k tank that were all plumbed together. Seems like a great idea to grow them fast and then when they get of size color them up.

Dang son those colors are looking sexy! I am quite jealous!

How much are you dosing now a day and of what exactly? Ive been debating starting up vodka dosing, but im unsure if i want to. My colors are pretty good as it is, but i know they can be better so its crossed my mind there past few months.

Schweet! :celeb1:

Thanks Dude!

Thanks man! currently dosing about 76ml of vinegar. I use Kalk for topoff and I dose strontium.. That's it.. Currently my calcium reactor is acting up so, I'm considering going two-part, but I haven't made the decision yet.

Here are some night before the east coast Tremor shots! These are phone pics so, please excuse the quality.. Unfortunately the Fairy wrasse that you see in the pics must have gotten spooked during the tremors. Found the poor guy in front of my tank dried up when I got home tonight.... RIP little guy..

Are those snails on the left all lined up? Very nice tank btw! Inspirational!

Thank You :) When I saw them that evening, I started laughing because it was so strange..... It looked like they were on a mission or something.. I guess there were trying to tell me an earthquake was coming or something.. LOL. I didn't even realize that my camera picked that up until you guys mentioned it.

I didn't even notice that. What did you do, train them to mow the glass single file? LOL

Crazy right? LOL!

I was in my office building in the Manhattan at the time on the elevator. So, I didn't feel anything due to the elevators natural swing.. However, when a colleague and I got off the elevator, people were looking at us like they had seen a ghost. Us New Yorkers are not use to that at all. LOL. From what I was told, there were two separate instances of rumblings a few seconds apart..

Jonathan, MAN you tank is unbelieveable! I can't believe you missed the earthquake....It was wild. My wife was away and when she found out about it, I told her I had to go finish mopping up the kitchen from the water that came out of my tank! LOL, Really had her going!

The new question is not how to deal with the hurricane? I know for one, I am caught with my pants down...Couldn't get a generator and not sure of a gameplan at the moment. I hope it is light, but being in the pine barrons of NJ, with all these trees, when the power goes out I wonder how long it will be. Actually had a call today from the power co stating that they expected days of power outages :(

What backup do you have?

After two years of this tank running, it's time for some progression shots. In some instances they are regression pics due to the bumps along the way that caused me to lose coral and/or fish... For the most part, every day is a lesson and after 9 years in this hobby with a break in between, I still consider myself green and ready to learn more....
