Review - AquaMaxx Magnus DC Pumps

Adding on to the Sicce SDC 9 commentary...

Just hooked mine up tonight, replacing my trusty Mag 18 in hopes of reducing heat generation for the coming summer. Also, like the efficiency, controllability, and slow-start.

But it is loud. A very low thrum sound. I have vinyl hose connections to hard plumbing and will try silicone hose to see if it helps. If not, it is going back. A shame tho; I like the pump otherwise.

What are the differences from the first Gen and the G2 series?

Sunpole made refinements to the motor so the pumps are a smidge larger but the specs are otherwise the same in terms of wattage, flow rate, etc. The biggest improvement is the 0-10V universal port that you can use to connect the pumps to an external aquarium controller, like Neptune Systems Apex!

Update, controller had a malfunction, Power button wouldn't turn off the pump. Ironically, the Feed button still worked. Since I recently tore down my 250 Gal. and sold most equipment, I didn't bother contacting Marine Depot about it, just e-waste recycled the controller.

Unfortunately, that's twice in two years that something went wrong with the controller for this DC pump. I hope most others have had better reliability than what I experienced.
