rhinos in your reef!!!

I kept one a while back in my old reef setup as well. Same deal would only eat silver-sides at first but eventually got it on whole krill as well. Not 100% but I believe these types of fish recognize prey by it's eyes, so it's difficult to get them eat anything except whole fish. I had some luck training a frog fish to eat by painting eyes on chucks of shrimp with a black marker but haven't experimented that much, really a solid diet of silver-sides shouldn't be that bad. The key is not to overfeed them as they are not that active.

I am very tempted to set up another tank for some of those. Are they difficult to keep?
They look like they would be venomouse, are they? Not that that would bother me because I kept lions before and currently have a foxface.

for some reason my rhino keeps on hopping up and down as if he wants to jump out of the tank. Tried feeding him 2 days in a row and he just ignored it. Anyone can help? Or just wait and stopping panicking.

whats your water quality like? any harassing tankmates? water too cold or too hot?
Dissolved O2 levels? pollutants?
Why not try doing a few water changes and adding carbon, see if that calms him down

Note on the feeding comments- why not load the sliversides with pellets and other foods? Soak the pellets in vitamins or syringe some into the silversides. I think we can get creative and make this fish fat and happy for a long time

I soak each silverside/shrimp with selcon for weeks ahead and stuff each with nls. I'm thinking that the powder blue tang is messing with it. Just did a water change yesterday and the tank always have carbon. Sg-1.025 nitrate-20pp ammonia-0

Any online places to get one of these fish? i've looked around but never seem them on any of the site's iv'e been too

right now two Rhinopias eschmeyeri are online; one at SWF, other at DD

not this exact species, or color- but rhinopias never the less

Just read the powder blue comment. Tangs are "pickers" adn he could be taking a nibble out of your fish trying to graze or just guarding his teritory and life. That would stress him out. Try feeding in lights out mode

I've been watching the powder blue, he doesn't pick on the rhino at all just
kinda hover above and then swims away. Also tried feednig at night.

Happy to say that I still have my rhino for 3 months now and it's doing better than ever! Still eating frozen and the color is still vibrant purple. Yesterday was a sad day when I witness my rhino gulp down my pair of perculas that were in the tank with him for 1 month. What a meal there.

i'm glad your Rhino is doing well. as for the clowns, i'm not surprised in the least.

I thought the one from SWF was a frondosa? Sorry, I still don't know how to distinguish them yet. Please see pic below.

Sorry to hear about the clowns. I was worried about my 3.5" Cuban hog but he knows not to get too close to the rhino. Good thing is that the QT doesn't have much competition for the hog so it's growing fast.

just removed the purple tang yesterday because he was a little too aggressive, and got a new mate... antenna lionfish
