Why can't I find this coral in any of my books?
What books are you looking in? I cant say that I recall ever seeing them in a book though.

Pufferpunk, you've got PM.

I looked in Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman and Book of Coral Propagation by Anthony Calfo. I thought I had seen something about them before in one of those books but I can't seem to find it now.

My good friend Junior took an awesome pic of my rhizos (and his) while he was "babysitting" them for me during a new tank set-up:

The new tank is up (deepwater, NPS coral reef), and I have a couple more so I'll have to snap more pics and post them when I get to it...

Aquarium Corals has like a paragraph about them I think but no pics.

I've seen different colors as well ... they're one of the few corals that Shows Off it's long flowing tentacles and they don't sting any corals (in my tank that is).

I've had them sting other coral and be stung by other coral... In general, I recommend keeping them apart as you would most coral.

Ditto... :D

Gorgeous pic BTW stunreefer...

My rhizo has had what looks like digested remains of a piece of silverside hanging about 1/2" out of the one end of its mouth for the last month to 1.5 months. Its dark greyish and brown and soft. I have good flow over my rhizo but it does not blow it off. I tried to move it around and it just kinda falls apart but won't come out.

Any ideas what it could be? I probably need to get a pic which i'll try to do this weekend.

I've noted that rhizos do not digest all food items equally. I know some people feed theirs squid, but I've witnessed them spit it back out and/or have trouble digesting it. I feed lots of Rod's predator blend and PE Mysis.

Pic is worth a thousand words...

Thanks for the reply. I fed it some silverside over the weekend and haven't seen the unknown thing hanging out of its mouth. But if/when it does i'll snap that pic.

I found that if you are feeding rhizos silversides, it helps if they are cut in half or quartered. It is most likely easier for them to digest and you have the added bonus of not having large pieces of undigested silverside skins/parts floating around your tank.

When feeding silversides I first soak them in a 1/2 cup of aquarium water with 1 ml of Fauna Marin UltraminS for about an hour pior to feeding. (after a few minutes of them being defrosted, chop them up with a scissor)

I also try to vary their diet; one day Mysis, one day prawns, fresh squid or clams.

I've tried silversides and I think they do spit them out when you're not looking as I've noticed some nutrient issues coming up lately. Tonight I checked and indeed there was an undigested silverside floating on the sandbed. So since I've been feeding silversides every night and they're spitting it out I'm guessing it's like having a fish die in your tank every night. Not good for a nano, even with an oversized skimmer! I think next time I'm going to chop it up into much smaller pieces.

Awesome rhizos Mike and Ken!

I just picked up a couple new additions last night... I'll have to get some shots of them once they're mounted.

uhuru,

Great picture! How are your Rhizos with those small Gobies? Can you safely keep a Rhizo if you have small fish?
