Rhizotrochus care

lunner, the flames in your Rhizo are stupendous :D. Nice picture.

anguswu- always gorgeous pictures from you. Not only do you have beautiful specimins but you are an exceptional photographer :).

As far as pictures go I have to get the Rhizos first, lol. I am getting the white with green tips today and the red one later in the week or early next week.

Sang,
I guess you didn't go for that sweet red one at Atlantis 'cuz I ended up getting it :D. I can't wait to see it in person later this week, the picture was frickin insane...I couldn't say no. I also picked up a nice white one from Todd at Cherry Corals coming in tomorrow. I'll definatley get some pictures up later in the week once they both get settled in.

For those of you with multiple Rhizos, can they be close together or tenticle even touching or will they war with each other???

That is awesome Alicia I was eyeballing that one for a while I am glad it went to a good home:) Post pictures when you get it.
I keep mine close & have no problems.
Here is an older picture of them touching

What do u feed your Rhizo? By the way, yours is gorgeous!

I fed it with fresh small fish once a week or two weeks.

Nice Rhyzos everyone...

Very interesting read on JenDub's article....
BTW have there been any report of reporduction / little babies in capativity?

Thanks guys. :)

I do keep mine in a shady area and on a rock. I took him down to take a better pic.

The only thing I have found is a link from Jendubs article, its to a Japanese sight where some of those spawning pictures are from. I cannot read it, but it appears to have been in a lab type situation where they were able to introduce sperm to an egg and have it grow.

Earlier in this thread I remember someone saying that theirs' sprouted a little bud.

I would love to know if anyone has any other info on this too!

What do you guys think would be the absolutely best food to feed a rhizotrochus? I just got one last night and it is eating krill like mad. I was thinking of gut loading mollies with all kinds of flake food and Piscine Energetics Mysis shrimp. Whatcha think?

Is it normal for a Rhizo to scream feed me every other day? It seems unless I fed mine a small piece of krill every other day / every day it does not appear to be too happy , e.g. not expanded..

Actually, the Rhyzos WILL reproduce by division :) Mike at the captive reef found this out accidentally... about 2 years ago he pulled a large one off of a piece of live rock to send to a client.. when he did he tore a very, very small corner of the Rhyzo... he tossed the live rock back into his tank and forgot about it... 6 mo later it was about the size of a Tic Tac... this is when I traded him for it.. I have now had her for close to 2 years and she is golf ball sized... BUT I also have one that is Larger than my fist.. all white with green tipped tentacles...

So in summary :) division works if YOU DARE
and they get VERY BIG when fed

I found this out recently too. Not first hand, but I talked to someone who actually cut one. He said it was like cutting (and healing) an Elegance, which I still dont have the balls, nor reason to do.

White with green tips

Red with yellow tips, super awesome color combo...Very bright and very nice. This one is hard to get a decent shot of due to the shaded spot I put it in for now.

I blame Alicia for convincing me to get mine... Not sure I should thank her or not... ;)

Hummm....mine does not appear to be as puffy as the red one in slojmn pic more like the white one.
It is sitting on the sand bed at the bottom of my tank under MH.
