Rhomboid Wrasse.

Anyone has luck with Rhomboid Wrasse? I had been through 3 of them and each one of them will only last between 1-3 weeks in QT. They will be eating great, PE Mysis, Rod's food and even pellets, then will stop eating and die within a few days. :(

I thought it was me, but found out a friend of mine also has the same issue.

If you don't mind sharing, let me know what's the longest you have you Rhomboid. I think I'm done with them for now, as I hate them dying in my tank and they are not cheap.

Thanks for any info you can share.

Please describe your quarantine process in detail. I and others e.g. bradleyj have kept them successfully for years.

In my experience Wrasse dont tollerate copper well. Did you qt them with copper. I lost 3 scotts and 1 labouti trying to qt in cuppramine. All my wrasse are put in an acclimation box inside of dt for a week and then realeased. Had no more problems.

I'm using an established Nano Cube 28gal or a 20L as QT. I usually only QT 1 fish at a time and QT them from 4-6 weeks before adding them to the display. Before introducing the fish to the display, I'll use a acclimation container for up to a week before releasing it into the display.

I also have a Labouti, a pair of Flame wrasse and couple leopard wrasses and I don't have issue with them as compared to the Rhomboid.

I'm sorry they have died on you. Like Steve said above, we have had good success with them and they are one of my favorites. You might want to try adding more than one at a time. They are very timid at first and can be stressed out easily.

Thanks for the feedbacks, I forgot to add that the only medication that I used during the QT is Prazipro. I currently have a Lineatus in another QT, so no more Rhomboid for me for the time being. But if I do try again, I might take a risk and add it directly into the display, but will put it in the acclimation container for about 1 week.

I just want to find out whether I was doing anything wrong with the Rhomboids, because I didn't have any problem with other wrasses I added.

yea i've had trouble also with fairys in prazi but i might have overdosed a bit lost a few labouti that way

Bradley, do you QT any of your wrasses. If so what is your routine if you dont mind sharing.

When it comes to wrasses, Fairies, leopards, I don't quarantine. They get stressed out way too much. I add them directly to my acclimation box and into my D/T.
I don't say this is the best way , or the right way, as a matter of fact, it cost me about 2 yrs ago.
But other than that one incident. I've had very good luck with wrasses.
Here is a couple more pics of my 3 rhomboids . The larger one I've had for almost 3 years now.

On a side note - Nice collection of fish and corals you have there Brad!

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Just thought I would add my two cents. I have had my rhomboid for about two months now. I had a pair but the male didn't make it. :( the female is doing great she is in with a pair of flame wrasses, pair of girdled fairy wrasses, and a orange shoulder tang. I skipped the quarantine process on my wrasses as well. Hope this helps. Tony

Thanks Bradley,
your wrasses are absolutely beautiful. How long do they stay in the acclimation box for? How many wrasses are you up to now?

Thank you Brett, I believe I have somewhere around 27 wrasses now and expect a C,Bathiphylus Thursday. I just got a C, Balteatus last week.

I decided to try the Rhomboid one last time, added one on Tuesday night. I added it into a acclimation container in the tank directly this time. It's slightly smaller than the last 2 I had, it's slightly smaller than 4", but it does has pretty nice coloration. It's eating great so far on PE Mysis and Rod's food, even started eating pellets yesterday. Wish me luck.

I decided to move the Rhomboid into my QT. I want to remove a couple of fish before I release the Rhomboid into the display. He has fatten up quite a bit and doing well in Nano Cube 28Gal QT. Here's a pic I took a few days ago with my phone.
