Ribbons eels and canopy cover question

I am building a canopy now for the tank to house lumenbright large pendants.
I know eels will escape if there is no cover/canopy. My plans are open top, but the 4 sides of canopy will be atleast 14" tall. The back 12 inches of the canopy would be covered, so the ballast will have a place to sit.
Question is, will a ribbon eel go up and over a 14" + tall canopy sides? (out of water 14")

I would not think so. Initial introduction is the main point of concern, provided they are in an appropriate system. My ribbons were all over the tank the first hour or so but found the pvc system and rarely leave it. The only time they leave is swimming from one opening to another. You could always cover the top of the canopy. I use scuba tank mesh as a piece of mind.

It shouldn't unless it's considerably unhappy, I've never covered the top of my aquaria that houses ribbons. Like stated above, they usually settle in and stay (again, unless something is making them extremely unhappy/starving). You shouldn't have a problem. Goodluck on the build! You guys mind posting some of your ribbon eels. Maybe share some of your experiences with them. I've always thought of them as very difficult to keep.

No doubt they are a difficult animal to keep. But, with extra love and care and patience you can really find out what you're able to keep and not I would not advise anyone to run out and scoop one up (but, it does upset me that you can get them at such an inexpensive price :angryfire though if you do your homework and can house one proper, then give it a shot and give it a lot of TLC, it goes further than people think. (we all still have loss) I'll try and grab a shot of ole ghostie on his midnight prowl
