Rickztah's Low Iron 22g Peninsula RBTA / Euphyllia / Clownfish (build)

I was thinking about your drain and came up with an idea. You could use two of the drains like a Herbie, then the last hole as the return. You could notch the acrylic overflow and run a small pipe that would then adapt to the loc line which would rest on the notched piece of the acrylic overflow. This would preserve your clean look. You would only have one hole going into the overflow box, which I think would be enough and the other hole for the return/loc line.

I did actually think of this, however, it would require me to drill the tank itself. While I feel better about drilling my tank now with more experience, with the external overflow in place now it would make the drilling part very awkward. Trust me though, so many times I have thought of doing this. That would mean I'd have to rework the inner overflow but I was willing to do that. As of now though, I think I will keep the up and over simply because it isn't going to be a peninsula style any longer unfortunately and I can drop it in with loc line from behind.

Either way, this is a great tank and I am looking forward to seeing it progress.

Thanks :).

I will tell you one thing though, I have been known in the past to at the spur of the moment do something on impulse and be so deep in to doing it that I have to finish. For instance, looking at my dry tank sitting in my living room whilst waiting for parts make me think that this would be a perfect opportunity to try to drill it! Ha!

Didn't do much but was able to install some plywood to the top and bottom as well as create the sectioned off area for the electronics. The pieces of plywood don't matter much as they will be painted and covered. The top will be covered in trim and will not show the exposed edge:

I still need to add the top plywood in the bottom section since I plan to add recessed lighting in there. It will also give it a cleaner look. Hopefully the section off area will keep the humidity out of there.

This wasn't part of the original design, but things always change when I have spare scraps and free time, lol.

I decided to add a "floating panel" on the access side. I plan on putting led's behind this section for a nice effect. I'm going to have to do a really good job painting this area because the wood is rough and I want it to match the rest of the quality of wood on the stand. I still need to drill a hole at the bottom of the floating panel to route the wires. In this manner, you shouldn't be able to see any wires what-so-ever. I still need to add an area inside the actual stand in order to mount a DJ switchboard but other than that, I am all set for plumbing and painting and finally the doors. The doors will be magnetic.

These pieces didn't have to be accurate or pretty. They will never be seen and were just used to have this floating panel off the other piece of wood to able to route the wires behind it. It needed to be wide enough to pass a plug so I stacked these 2 each.

This is how they will look behind the panel

This is them mounted up before I add the floating panel on top of them.

and all done. It is difficult to photograph this to look how it does in real life but I think it came out great. The Led's should accent the whole build pretty well.

Superb Rick
Thanks Rik. Each week I get a little closer and closer. Ordered a few gate valves yesterday so the show keeps rolling....

nice setup... look forward to seeing this tank up and running

As do I! :)

I'm trying to do a mental check list of things I still need and the big ticket item still left is acrylic. I plan on putting acrylic under the tank itself and also plan to use acrylic for the doors. It will not be cheap....

Was working with acrylic rods to get the rocks how I wanted them:

Although you would never see the side trimmings of the top piece that is under the tank, I still plan on replacing that piece of plywood. It is just annoying to see and I plan on getting a nice piece instead. It will eventually be covered by trim, but still, lol.

Damn nice build Rick! All of it looks smooth and well planned out.

I felt like mentioning, the BRS team did the clown harem tank filled with RBTA. As time went on they all felt that their Bubble Anemone's weren't flourishing well, but were surviving just fine. They were doing everything right, but they started to question their lighting. They had LED lights, I forget which ones but they didn't go cheap for sure.. After switching it to T5 lighting their RBTA flourished and grew exponentially.

In a much smaller tank, I'm thinking you probably won't have that problem down the line.

Hopefully that will not happen, but I have seen a few threads noting something very similar to what you are suggesting. My goal was to set up 2 supplemental T5's but the sale I was hoping to buy from a fellow member never went through. He had 2 single strip 24" fixture/bulb/reflectors that would have been perfect. I still plan on getting them, but it will not happen for a while.

Just got a new job and need to buy a whole bunch of new clothing that was ear-marked for reef tank unfortunately :(

Don't sweat waiting man, rushing has only gotten me into trouble faster. Only bad things happen quickly, no sense helping speed that up!

You aren't the first to tell me that, lol. I will keep going at the pace I am on, which is, glacial :worried:

Congrats on the new job! Hopefully there is a pay increase so you can buy more reef equipment!! :)
It is a very small pay increase, however, it is a much better schedule (I currently work swing and have for over 10yrs), and I get weekends and holidays off. That is worth it in my book, heck, I would have taken a slight pay deduction to get this job.

That's awesome. Weekends and holidays are def worth a pay cut, that's for sure.

Sounds like your gunna have more time to work on this tank. Should be wet in a week? 2? ;)
