They normally look red (like the one next to it) but this one is all closed up like a tulip?

all my mushrooms have been acting up lately... had them for a year and for the first time I noticed a brown stringy stuff popping out of their mouths.

When mine spit out brown stuff it is usually waste matter. Its when they spit out white stuff that you need to worry. I would say it got bugged or its eating. Watch it for a little bit and see if it goes back to normal.

your alk is pretty high, most softies don't do well with high alk. I'd try to get it down to aroud 9 - 9.5 at 12 to 13 you'll start to loose things.

Based on your stated parameters I would say you have a few things going on. While as noted your ALK is high (normal ranges are typically 7-22 dKH), your nitrates are elevated and should be <.02ppm, and I would consider your PH to be low at 8.0 - I find the best range is between 8.1-8.3 and I keep mine at 8.2 with good results.

I would suggest that you test two more items: phosphate and magnesium. When you look at CAL, ALK you should look at MAG at the same time there are great article on the balance between the three. Also, your calcium is a little high top end should be 450 (range 380-450 ppm).

I hope this helps.

Thanx! They are looking normal now, the only issue is my GSP.. only like 1/8th of the colony is opening for the past 2-3 months. Film algae took control of the glass... I need to fix my HOB skimmer and get that running on there. It began overflowing around the collection cup (flooding my carpet over night..).

I'm bringing down the alk, when I was a beginner I was a buffer maniac and dosed everyday for ph.. I'm still lowering the alk from those days..now I never use a buffer for anything unless calicum is low.
