Right Food for Kole Tang

A couple of days ago I purchased a Kole Tang. He seems to be happy in the aquarium and has been picking like crazy at the algae on my live rock. My concern is that it hasn't been eating any of the food that I have presented to him. Yesterday, I put a clip in the tank with Sea Veggies Green Seaweed and he didn't even ackowlege it was in their. Can anyone recomend other food or do I just need to give him more time?

Do you have any other fish in the tank . I have a Kole and when I added it to the DT with the other fish at first it was not interested in eating anything but the algae on the rock and glass . I don't know how long it took it to start eating mysis with the others . It still works over the rocks and glass like crazy . Just watch it and make sure his belly has a bulge to it . I also put part of a sheet of nori in (rubber band to rock) on the weekend and leave it all day . Be sure to take it out at nite when you retire or when lights go out .

I have a fairy wrasse and two tiny false perc clowns. The tangs belly looks good and I have noticed him pooping like crazy so he must be eating something. I will try the rock/rubber band trick. Thanks...

Kole tangs are not real big on eating nori. They will do it sometimes, particularlly when they see and learn from other fish doing it. But it is not unusual for them not to feed this way. The single best food to get a kole eating is New Life Spetrum Pellets. Koles absolutely love them, and they are perfect in terms of providing for the nutritional needs of the kole. Koles also usually like mysis shrimp and even clam meat. However, I would make sure to make the NLS pellets a staple of his diet so that he gets his required nutrition.

That's good to know I will have to pick up some pellets .

Not just any "pellets", but New Life Spectrum Pellets. All pellets are not created equal, and the NLS pellets have a particularly high nutritional profile and also are known to create an usually strong feeding response in many fish.
