" right" powehead combo for a 180

I have a 6105 right now, which I think may be a bit too powerful for my 4x3 180 gal,as it is creating mini sand storm at full blast.
I plan to run an APEX so wondering if if should get another 6105 or smaller controllable powerheads?

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers

Assuming you bought it new, you should be able to better use the 6105 if you install the wide flow housing it came with and reduce the voltage of the power supply by changing the jumper to 18 or 12V and possibly angle the pump slightly upwards. I think this is the right size pump for your tank and 2 would be the ideal so you can alternate the flow direction.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the quick reply,i did buy it new a week ago from marine depot.
I think i am setup with the wide housing( perhaps need to double check that? The notice does not show how to differentiate, how can you tell?) and downgraded to 12 V already but my sand is really fine so clouds the water noticeably. I am ok with another 6105 but want to make sure i use them to the full extent.

They come with narrower 2" outlet attached and the wider 2.5" outlet is loose on the front and you just swap them out.

You will generally run 1 pump at a time and alternate between them every few hours. Be careful to keep the pumps clean of sand, it can jam them up, I would try different placements and aiming upward to minimize this issue.
