summer.....awesome ricordia tank!

grundig....love the clean look of your set up. sweet.

godfather.....errrrr, dogfather.... looks like a sweet tank you have on order. i wish i had gone that large, mine is 36 x 24 x 20 high. the extra length and depth of your 48 x 30 is going to be great for aquascaping.

Our current 40g is a 24x24x24 cube and it's a real pain to aqua scape. Every time I need to reach the bottom I get my pits wet...

Cool, I had a 120 from Derek. It wasn't bad...

It wasn't bad? That's like saying "<i>Meh</i>, I've had better". Care to elaborate?

Miracles as far as I can tell makes some of the finest custom tanks around...

Bought my rimless today.
Here's a shot of it at the store holding their ancient collection of fake corals:

Disappointed about the quality of the glass cages tanks. I was totally going to get one from them. Not so much anymore. Looks like I am back to the drawing board. I don't want to spend a few hundo on shipping and they are close enough to pick up. SHIKES!

On another note. Does anyone have a pic of an INSIDE corner of an Elos tank. I know they don't leak much info, but does anyone else think they are using UV glue to bond the tanks and then sealing the bond with silicone? It does not look like they are using enough silicone to bond the glass. BUT, UV bonding adhesives, while stronger than any silicone, are not waterproof. Maybe they are bonding them with UV bonding glue and then sealing the bond from the water.???

shipping for Glass cages is $35-$75. Not bad for a tank! And I have seen a couple of their rimless tanks and theyh seem to be OK. The silicone work is pretty crappy but overall its a fair deal for the price.

Yeah, but the silicone is all that separates an aquarium from 5 pieces of glass. It is the only thing that really makes an aquarium an aquarium. Kind of. So if they have not gotten that part down to a science by the time I get my tank, I am not going to get GC one. After all, even I can do a bad silicone job. If I want a bad job, I'll just do it myself and spend half the money on the glass. Or just splurge for an Elos?

actually GC tanks are over engineered. Its just that the silicone is a bit sloppy. I dont understand why they have such crapy silicone work. You could train a monkey to apply silicone.

ok lets all calm down ;), glass cages are ok tanks but you certainly get what u pay for and you don't pay for cleanly polished edges or overengineering...

Elks tanks on the other hand have earthquake safe bottoms and the finest edges and silicone work I've witnessed.

Only tanks I've seen that are overengineered IMO are AGE And elos.

Explain what you mean by "over-engineered". There is not much engineering involved. Seems like more of an artform than some crazy ingenuity. The Elos tanks are beautiful and amazing, but the rest of them, although not as pretty, serve the same purpose from an "engineering" standpoint. They all hold water. The question is what is holding the glass together? The answer is silicone. So, IMO, the silicone is the most important part.

Agreed freddy. Don't get caught up in the hype...BUT there are some companies that do not build as meticulous as others. But overall they serve there purpose

I have a GC 190G rimless and its very heavy duty.

The fit/finish is not up to the par of an ELOS of course but for the price its a very good deal. I do see that they raised their prices since I bought a year ago so that certainly would factor into the equation although I imagine other builders may have done the same.

When we talk about "heavy duty" and "over-engineered" in relation to aquariums, I do not get it. One is not more heavy duty, it just has thicker glass. That has nothing to do with the aquarium maker at all. They just order thicker glass from their supplier. The building of the aquarium has EVERYTHING to do with the fit and finish. It seems to me that if a place makes bad joints and has bad fit and finish then they should not charge much more for their aquariums than the glass costs in the first place.

Do I think these other companies are completely overpriced? Sure. Without a doubt. Hell, you can't even find out a price on most of them. And one thing is for sure, if the prices are not published it is most certainly because the products are over priced, no matter what the product.

nope, AGE tanks are built with a routed PVC bottom and back panel, they dont even seal them with silicone, Elos uses a multi peice bottom so the tank can flex, even overflow designs are different, some tanks are better in every way.

you have to decide what your willing to spend thats the bottom line

the glass to glass seals are silicone but the ones involving the PVC panels are some kind of glue or plastic sealant they wont say what exactly.
