Rimless Aquarium Club

Nice pop on those yellows and reds... what i that monster on the left side a carpet or a leather? got any closer pics?

Thanks. The colors don't look nearly as great in the pictures as it looks in person. This is the reason I love T5s, the flexibility to tweak colors just how you want them. I have not seen many tanks with more actinic pop than I have.

The coral in the far corner is a big leather, one with which I have had good success getting clownfish to host in. It is easily more than a foot tall and a foot across now.

can i join??

beautiful tanks everyone. i think i can just take my black trim off as it does have glass braces.

No! Your tank will fall apart! Rimless tanks are made of thicker glass so the seams will stay together. Mine is 3/4 inch glass.

What bulb combo are you running to get this nice pop on the yellows/greens and reds?

I got an ATI 6x54 fixture with
3 ATI Blue Plus
1 UVL Super Actinic
1 UVL Actinic white (75% actinic- 25% 10k)
1 Fiji Purple

What changes would I have to do to get similar colors? I had in mind to get rid of the UVL super actinic and add an extra ATI Blue Plus since I think the UVL Super Actinic is very dim.

THX in advance

customdusty, I'm also curious about your bulb selection. It looks really nice.

My bulb combo is 8 ATI Blue+, 2 Fiji Purple, and 2 Aquascience 15k. I run them in 3 separate groups of 4 bulbs.

Set One consists of 2 Blue+ and 2 AS 15k

Set Two consists of 2 Blue+ and 2 Fiji Purple

Set Three is 4 ATI Blue+

My favorite combo is running set 2 and 3, so 6 Blue+ and 2 Fiji Purple. The color is amazing in person. The actinic pop of the flourescing corals especially the pop of the oranges/reds is very vibrant.

I tried a few of the GE 6500k and ATI Aquablue Special in the past, but found that the AS 15k delivered a more crisp color and quite a bit of actinic pop for not being an actinic bulb per say. This in my opinion is one of the most underrated bulbs out there.

Sorry for jumping in but IMO, I'd lose the Super Actinic and replace it with a GE 6k. I know how this sounds but it works. Are you sure you have an actinic white? If its how you descride (75% actinic- 25% 10k) it sounds like a UVL 75/25. At any rate, ditch the actinic and replace it w/ a GE for reds and yellows.

Beautiful tank.

If you were to run an 8 bulb combo what would you run? (i'm gonna use an 8 bulb PM thats why I ask). Do you have a pic of the 6 blue+ and 2 fiji purples?

I love my ATI PM, but the fact that you're able to run your Sfiligoi Stealth 12in three different sequences is quite amazing.. plus you get two extra bulbs.. Very Nice and I agree, nothing gives you the beautiful color of Blue + and KZ Fiji purples together. I end up ging with a UVL antinic White as a replacement due to the Fiji being out of stock and I really miss it! A must see in person!

I don't remember how the 8 bulb PM was wired so I'm not sure what you have in terms of switches. When I had an 8 bulb fixture I always had a group of 4 that had 3 Blue+ with 1 Fiji Purple. I'd take the other 4 and 3 Blue+ and a GE 6500K. This is a good recipe for growth and aesthetics, but if you want more actinic pop and flourescing, swap the GE 6500k for a AS 15k. I wouldn't run just the Blue+ and FP alone, in my opinion the corals benefit from a little more of a full spectrum than that combo offers.

In regards to the GE 6500k, I am a big fan of this bulb and I used to run a GE 6500k in place of one of the Fiji Purples. When combined with the high number of Blue+ bulbs, I feel that they have a similar effect - although stand alone the FP is more red and the GE more yellow. The only difference I noticed was that FP gives a little more pop to reds/warm colors. The GE 6500k really enhances yellows, which helps pinks, reds, and greens, but doesn't 'pop'.

I'll see if I can take more pictures, but I just can't get my camera to capture the colors as accurately as they appear in person. Anybody who lives in the Chicagoland area or is visiting the area is more than welcome to come by and check out my system first hand.

I believe the 2nd and 7th slot are dusk/dawn

Was thinking:

Front
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Blue +
KZ New Generation
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Blue +
KZ New Generation

or

Front
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Blue +
KZ New Generation
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Blue +
Blue +

i'm scared of the 6500 because I heard it's very yellow

OK, here are some updated pictures. The old aquascape was really bugging me, especially the larger island viewed from one side of the tank. I have lowered the larger island and built it in a more diagonal structure with an overhang on which I have placed the green staghorn. The smaller island has been left unchanged and I have added a couple of more SPS colonies. It is not easy aquascaping a structure viewable from all sides because each time you get one side right, there is something wrong with it on the other side. Anyway, I am finally happy with it and hope you like it.
