Rimless Aquarium Club

A local glass tank builder told be with 1/2" glass and a 24" height at a 48" length will most like seperate the silicon on the seams... i'm wondering if this is true? i'm going to get a 20" tall done with the dimensions 48"x24"x20" with 1/2" glass... should i worry? i'm not worried about his quality but worried about the fact that he is right on a 24" height and he was iffy about the 20" height.. but i see so many of you with 24" rimless tanks so i'm wondering are they using thicker glass to prevent bowing?? also whats the longest anyone has had a tank with 24" height and a 48" length? i'm looking for experienced answers not guesses from someone thats never had a rimless of that size or larger..

I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as the builder knows what he is doing. SunnyX had a 48x24x20 set up for years with no issues. but his was made by Miracles and I have no idea who your having yours built by.

was his 1/2" glass?? the builder i'm using is using rtv 103 he's pretty good at building tanks he's done alot in the area i'm in and very good work.. but maybe i'll see what miracles can do and what they're price will be..

i love these tanks!!,excuse me for being a lil ignorant i only skimmed through some pages but my question is with a screen top that will take away the look of it how can you have any type of wrasses or fish that's known to be jumpers?

I dig the overflow. Who built the tank? Is the back wall PVC or acrylic? Give us more info!!!

reef savvy built the tank it is all 1/2 glass front three are iron. i just finished setting it up last night and will be downloading more pictures soon the overflow is a herdie/beananimal overflow with 3 1.5pvc pipes

I finally finished my 60 gallon rimless, I got the light hung this week.

I believe there is an equation they do to determine if the tank will be stable. Every quote that I have ever had used 1/2" glass for a 20" tank and 3/4" for a 24" tank. I think you will be perfectly fine with 1/2" glass on a 20" tank.

Y-DesygnGuy,
Very nice tank. I like the modern stand and canopy. Are you runnig an AI led fixture in the canopy and are those glass panes for the doors? Also, how far from the edge is the water line? Thanks.

Thank you, I am using a single AI Sol Blue for lighting, it is 12.5" from the water line. Yes those are smoked glass doors and the water line is 3/4" from the rim. This is my first time building anything even close to this, I am not a DIY person. But I had a vision for the tank and I took my time and I think it came out nice.
