Rimless Aquarium Club

I like it quite a bit. It's easy to light, easy to work in, and I really enjoy viewing it from above. There's about 13 1/2" of water or so in there, after sand + clearance at the top.

KGK,
Cool! This weekend I will fill the tank for the first time. I am interested in seeing how much usable space I have. I have some live rock that I really like that I want to transfer from my 65rr. The only thing is some are tall peices. With the aquacaping that I have in mind, I hope it works out. Thanks.

Been running for 3 weeks now without lights. Will be going ZeoVit on this tank and will add the zeo reactor next week along with the basic 4. Still need to add the two vortech's and program them to my WXM module.

Motile inverts?

Motile inverts?

These are some beautiful tanks...! I think I've read the whole thread now (!) and although some of my questions about stocking have been addressed, I havent' seen anything on keeping motile invertebrates in a rimless tank. Is their 'motility' more of an issue in a rimless than in other types of tanks? :spin1: I don't see many shrimp/snails/etc. in the pictures, but they may be hidden (or busy working)...you know how they are!

I'm very tempted by a rimless as I love the look and the pendant lighting options. Thanks for some great pics and reading!

Guys,
I am hesitating to buy a rimless tank. I love the look, but will it last as long as the reinforced ones?
Do we know what is the oldest rimless tank still operating?

Thanks for the info, I want to be member of this club!!!!!!

I don't know what the oldest is on here, but I know a guy here in South Florida that has had an Elos for more than 7 or 8 years. I think it has been that long since he got it, but I'm not 100% sure. I know the tank I have, I expect to last a long time. It's 20" x 20" x 18" and it is .5" glass, made by Reef Savvy. I don't know of any tanks that small using .5" glass. I don't know for sure if using the .5" glass will make it stronger, but common sense tells me that the extra contact area for the silicone should make it stronger, but science and physics can be in complete opposition to common sense, and I've learned plenty of things in physics and science classes in the past that made me think, "How is that possible? It doesn't make sense. That goes against logic and everything I've ever learned."

Just picked my GlassCages 60 cube rimless up today. It has starfire on front and sides, and rear overflow. Very happy with the construction. Kinda worried after reading some bad post about them. The tank is gonna be mainly SPS. I have a 20 gal DIY sump, with precision marine redline 100 skimmer. Looking into Avast or Geo Calcium reactor. Already have pfo 250 de 15k xm mh for it. Gonna be running zeovit. I have to tear down my solana when I get the house tented and then set up the 60 with the inhabitant after. Will post pics as soon as possible. Also have a DIY stand in progress. Anyone use neoprene as padding under tank, and if so how thick do you think.

I purchased a 60 gallon cube from them in October. So far so good, I see a few spots they could of done a better job on. Over all the tank is pretty nice, you should be very happy.

Good to hear that about glass cages. It should be a great tank once it is up and running. The plan is to switch of in april after the house is tented. Just got done making a purchase at aquarium specialty. What a great company so far, good customer service. Plus they don't charge sales tax when shipping to california, saved me 100 bucks

i am currently saving to get a 8ftx2ftx15" tank from glasscages.. they quoted $1000 for it rimless or 650 eurobraced (thinner glass)

I'm almost to the halfway point on saving :) waiting to see what the price increase will be for starfire glass.. eek

I got out of the hobby about a year ago, as I had a new born son and my photography hobby was escalating to more than a hobby, I couldn't handle all 3 so aquariums was the one that got the boot...but I promised to be back one day.
And I will...the promise holds true.

I'm still not ready to come back with the tank I want, so I'm just lurking and studying the different tanks that are coming up, and keeping up with the new technologies that arise in the time I'm out of the hobby.

I will go rimless again, I had a 34g Solana tank and thats what I sold when I got out of the hobby. I want to go bigger this time, 150g + and rimless with sump/refug etc...stuff I didn't really have last time around.
My motto this time is Go Big or Go Home. Well, not TOO big...lol...I'll save the real BIG for the Public Aquariums.

So looking at the rimless tanks via photos on here, my favorite aquarium manufacturers are AGE, ELOS, and Miracles...ELOS being a top of the line favorite, AGE being another top of the line but more affordable option, and Miracles being the most affordable option. Granted, all these are expensive options in the sizes I'm wanting, but all good quality too.

So please don't mind me lurking and throwing out questions here and there to you all!
I will have a tank on here eventually...

Thats an interesting color stand! I like it!! Is it turquoise? Bead board doors? Nice!!!!

Thanks! My husband made the stand using the template found here on RC threads - Yes, Bead board doors - I painted the stand to match the only painted wall in our guest room -- Other 3 walls are logs/windows. Went with turquoise to go with our "caribbean souvenirs and photos" (Im a travel agent).

Don't mind the donuts in the tank. Im waiting on some corals and found the donuts are a good way to be able to move them around if they don't like the LEDs. I'm also putting a background behind the tank. Its a 1/16" piece of acrylic with a cling on background I made using the gradient colors from the wall but with a scene that will give it some dimension (I also am a graphic design). Im not sure if I will screw the sheet onto the wall or maybe make a light box for it. Got the acrylic today, waiting on the printed vinyl cling on. The good thing is if I don't like the cling on, I can just design another and put it on the acrylic.
