Don't do that! These rimless tanks were designed like that by the makers. If you do that with a top braced tank, your tank will fail. Water Everywhere!I haven't read much of this thread but I have some quick questions. Are people removing plastic rims from standard glass tanks? Even tanks with cross-braced rims? Removing when they are empty of course. I would like to remove a rim from a 50 gallon tall tank. Is this a good idea? Would the glass bow out too much?

The 344g rimless tank is an engineering marvel. How even the thickest of glass without distorting view and color can hold that much water without bracing is beyond me.
