Rimless Aquarium Club

Some pics and design renders of my Long slow 24x24x18 irregular haxahedron (for you cube snobs) build. Tank size is 24"x24"x18"tall, for a total of 44.9 gallons, but the water is a good 2" below the rim. I estimate that the total volume is right around 50 gallons, but could be less - BRS reef calculator is always off (on the high side) when I use 50g. for my system volume. I'm going to be changing the aquascape around a bit when I find some good shelf rock that I'm happy with - it has a bit too much rock in the display right now for my taste. All of the corals on the sandbed are also going to be leaving too - I like the look of an open sandbed. Details in my build thread (linked above) including a parts list for the DIY light brackets that I designed from 80/20 aluminum extrusion.

does anyone think id have a problem pulling the rim off a standard 30 breeder (like an aqueon?). really dont want to brace it.

Everyone's tanks look awesome!

I guess I am a new member of the Rimless club :)

I have 110g 48x30x18 starphire rimless on the way. Shipped this week and will be here in 3..4 days. Can't wait.

I wouldn't trust it. The bracing was put there for a reason. The glass thickness probably isn't adequate to hold the water volume safely without the bracing.
