Rimless or....

I am looking to possibly take the rim off of my new aquarium. I have been looking a little into and it seems pretty safe to do. It's a 58g all glass. I just think rimless looks so much better and I can't afford Elos, so is it safe? Has anyone else done this with much sucess?

sounds pretty risky to me, I'm not sure if the ELOS tanks Use tempered glass or just thicker glass. Glass aquariums don't bow they break, but with a 58 gallon tank you may be alright IMO I wouldn't do it just for piece of mind.

Glasscages sell rimless aquariums now, might be an option for ya

Unfortunetly I think that black/woodgrain plastic at the rim DOES serve some structurel purpose. I agree with JJ you may be ok with it on a 58, but essentially you wont know if there is a problem until you have a lake around your tank. Kinda a fine until your f'd thing. How thick is the glass on a 58?

im not sure all glass makes a 58g. im guessing it may oceanic which means the glass is most likely thicker....but not thick enough. they build tanks very well and i wouldn't change it. it would hold for awhile but those seems aren't going to hold forever and there won't be a warning, there WILL be a puddle of hard work and money on the floor that will serve as a reminder to why they put those rims on there.
