Thanks Reef_Mini.
Hmmm....not sure why some people would have problem with water splashing out when they clean the glass. I've never had a problem with that, but maybe my water level is lower. It's always about 2" below the top of the tank. I did have one BIG issue with splashing, and that was a Yellow Coris Wrasse. He had a really bad habit of going up to the top of the tank, and splashing water out. It would drip down the glass and then there would be dried salt on the glass which drove me crazy. I finally brought him back to the LFS a couple months after I bought him. He's the only fish that ever did that.
I've had maybe 2 or 3 snails over the past 2.5 years climb up and I found them sitting on the very top edge of the tank. They were completely out of the water but alive, and I just tossed them back in. And one more found it's way all the way out and I found him on the carpet, also alive. All of them were Cerith snails. My Astrea, Bumblebee and Nacarrius snails don't go near the glass.
As for fish, I've had the following in my 53 gallon tank (not all at once) and they would also work well in a tank 35-40 gallons. Never had any of these jump. I think it does help sticking to peaceful fish, to lower the chances of
fish jumping. Not that they won't still jump, but I think they'll be less likely.
Clown Fish
Bartletts Anthias
Royal Gramma
Six Line Wrasse
Tailspot Blenny
Goby and Shrimp Pair
Flame Hawkfish
Pygmy Possum Wrasse
Coral Beauty (might be too large for a 35-40 gallon tank)
Fish I've had mixed results with regarding jumping...
Longnose Hawkfish. Had one for about a year that never jumped, and the
2nd one I had jumped after about 6 months. I'd take a chance with another.
Orchid or Purple / Magenta Dottyback -Lost one to jumping after 6 months, the other was fine. I'd chance another.
Fish I wouldn't chance because of jumping... Any type of Firefish and all wrasses except for the Six Line and Pygmy Possum Wrasse.

Thanks for all the responses!
Pammy your tank is lovely, I decided to go rimless because of the Elos tanks. Too bad they cost almost twice the price here compared with the US. As if they weren't expensive enough already!
So none of you have had problems with humidity etc.? I guess that may be more of an issue with very large tanks and small rooms.
What are some good small fish that are relatively unlikely to jump? I'm looking for fish that can be kept in a 35~40 gallon tank.
How are flame angels and clowns when it comes to jumping? I really don't want to have to give them away if I do make the move to a open top tank.
Thanks!
