Yeah, I know it would be a fairly easy/cheap mod but it just defeats the purpose of going with the rimless look... like I said, they (planet aquariums) originally sent me the wrong tank that had Eurobracing and I sent it back because i wanted a sleek rimless tank...

Your tank definitely looks awesome. Lol, it almost sounds like the sales person and the tank builder had a disagreement on the safety factor. I do own a planet aquarium rimless sitting in storage for a future build, 48" x 21" x 30" with 1/2" glass and pvc bottom.

i totally agree with ca1ORE

most all gass tanks even those with trim will have some deflection.

i can eyeball a 1/8 bow easily just not exact

Thanks, I was trying to find something like this! According to this, my safety factor is 7.8 (and that is for 18" high when I only really have 16" of water

Years back Odell made my 220 without any braces, standard practice with 5/8 glass.They supplied glass covers & tracks.
Instructions Clearly Stated -- do not cut plastic tracks until tank is full otherwise they will fall in when tank is filled.
So- tanks can & will bow but are still safe.

Bingo...I mentioned my 1976 glass tank bowed like 3/4".....yes it was an ODell made in Oakland, CA.
Tank was 6 foot long and looking down the top side was frightening.

Thank you all for the input, I am feeling a bit better about things. I also found my quote from Miracles which was also 1/2" and said once they step up to 20"height they would have to go to 5/8" thickness.

Carpentry will hone your abilities, that's for sure.

always put a straight edge along front of tank will tell the bow
but at that of a small bow i would not worry
