Rinsing sand?

Guys,

What are your experiences/thoughts about pre-rinsing sand for a new aquarium?

Would rinsing the sand reduce the amount/time period of the impending diatom bloom?

I've read many accounts of those who say that the bacteria in live sand is mostly dead already and that the live sand moniker is more of a marketing gimmick. Thoughts?

Cheers,
G

To me “live sand” is just “damp” in the bag.
If it had 1000’s of bacteria I guess it’s “live”, but kinda deceiving IMM.
I do rinse in a bucket to it clears up.
I certainly want to keep the cloudiness to a min.
Diatom bloom, or any other pest algae’s, love unstable water chemistry so the more you make it stable, the less you fight that stuff and the faster, more favourable stuff populates which are super contributors to both manage our nitrate levels and keep hard surfaces “clean”. That bio-film takes a bit. Keep light to a min, especially in the 660nm catagory. (Reds)
