Yea its nice but I was hoping for a nice reverse to keep my bottom clean, crud still sits on the floor of my tank. I think once I upgrade to the wider tank the coral placement will open up and I can turn the forward flow on more than 40 percent. I still run a mp40 opposite of the gyre on 100 percent reefcrest. They really did overhype the reverse mode in marketing though, and that is one of the main selling points of their product. I think running two on either side of the tank will help dislodge any dead spots on the bottom, but only on tanks that are not to tall and wide. Again I haven't played with it much so maybe there is a better option for me like running it so one side of the pump is pushing forward while the other running reverse. Anyone have better luck with this option?
I don't think that you need the reverse mode for good health or growth either. But if you run this pump in constant forward mode all the time, your corals are going to grow with the direction of the flow. I can't stand that, I have to have very strong turbulent flow in my tank to get tight thick growth, which is when acros look the most beautiful IMO. Corals growing with flow direction or branching out long and skinny because of weak flow areas doesn't float my boat
