Riptide Gyre question

Great thread. I would love to hear more experience from large tanks. Do we need two gyres to get the laminar flow? I have two MP60s with two Reeflos (Hammerhead--closed loop with 2 Seasweeps and Barracuda--return with 2 OMa) on a very new 600g tank, which seems to be great at this early point.

that makes sense! i think you just convinced me to order one for the opposite side

Yea its nice but I was hoping for a nice reverse to keep my bottom clean, crud still sits on the floor of my tank. I think once I upgrade to the wider tank the coral placement will open up and I can turn the forward flow on more than 40 percent. I still run a mp40 opposite of the gyre on 100 percent reefcrest. They really did overhype the reverse mode in marketing though, and that is one of the main selling points of their product. I think running two on either side of the tank will help dislodge any dead spots on the bottom, but only on tanks that are not to tall and wide. Again I haven't played with it much so maybe there is a better option for me like running it so one side of the pump is pushing forward while the other running reverse. Anyone have better luck with this option?

I don't think that you need the reverse mode for good health or growth either. But if you run this pump in constant forward mode all the time, your corals are going to grow with the direction of the flow. I can't stand that, I have to have very strong turbulent flow in my tank to get tight thick growth, which is when acros look the most beautiful IMO. Corals growing with flow direction or branching out long and skinny because of weak flow areas doesn't float my boat :)

My wife and family bought me one for Christmas :) it's been running since the 23rd.

I have found it to be well worth it, I have it in a 6x2x2 mounted on the right hand side in a manly SPS dominated aquarium. It is currently set on pulsing mode and on #4 speed which I have found to suit my system so far.

You can really see the flow hitting the far side going down and across the bottom. I have not experienced much sand movement unless I put the speed up a few settings which has delighted me. I have also noticed more polyp extension since using the Gyre.

Can people post pics of the front of the pump who are in alternating gyre? I would like to see how you've oriented the roll cages.

Just set this up in my 75g standard tank and wow I can't believe how much detritus came uOut of the rock work. Polyp Extension and moving pattern of polyps has increased greatly. I am running in alternating gyre flow paddles A-A I may try to B-B since its on the opposite side of the corner flow. It's currently at 40/60.

I installed the Gyre three weeks ago and love it. I did notice lot better response (PE) in most coral, but I had a few that I did have to move. blue montapora digitata, two different pocillopora and one kedd's red's Zoa.
