Rising Ca!

For some time now, after an all of a sudden what happened moment with my semi-tank crash last fall I cannot keep my Ca down. I do have a theory...I have over time added quite a few real coral heads replacing certain pieces of Lr in my display tank, to give it that "real" ocean look. Are the dead coral heads leaching Ca into the water column thus sky-rocketing my Ca and damaging and stressing my SPS. All I use is regular IO and have had my CaRx turned off and have been dosing Dkh to maintain levels. Scratching my head over this one...Oh, todays Ca results are 561 two days ago, 540. Have fresh mix going for a decent wc and see what happens. All test were conducted with Hanna Checkers, Salifert, and Red sea test kits that are with good standing dates.

Today's results:
Ca:561
Dkh:9.46
Mg:1600+
Ph: 7.92
Po4:.31
Let me know what you think on this one.

Thanks,
Ernie

Have you checked the level of your newly mixed salt water? I have seen a few threads of high Ca recently and actually have been experiencing the same myself and I'm wondering if there's a batch of IO out there with high Ca. I just keep forgetting to test my fresh SW before I use it.

Dead coral heads won't leach much, if any, calcium into the water. I agree that a bad batch of salt, or a bag that settled badly during shipment, might cause this problem.
