Ritteri just hit the 6 month mark a week ago

So my Ritteri Just hit the 6 month mark in my tank. For the way I ended up with it I think he's doing pretty good. I got him when my lfs ordered it by mistake and they had no sw tanks with any kind of light other than regular florescent bulbs. I figured I could do better than they could with it sense I has MH lighting and adequate filtration and flow. I had never had a ritteri before and had only kept bta's and condys long term. He's growing quick but thats because it gets fed almost daily mysis or a piece of krill. I'd love for it to split sometime but if it don't that's ok too. Here is a pic of him today:

Very nice indeed.

What all is in the tank... I do not see any fish.

There are fish. They just like to hide. There are 3 green chromis, 1 clariki clown, her mate died a while back when i lost most of my fish. 1 green mandrain, 1 lawnmower blenny and a neon dotty back. So not a lot of fish.

Yea it is I have somewhat of a hard time keeping it alive. It goes through spell where it grows really well and spells where it all tries to die

Wow!

Wow!

bjledbetter,

Wow! Quite impressive!

How did you get the Ritteri to attach where it is? Over the years, most of the nice Ritteris and Magnificas I've seen for sale in shops have a preference for sticking their butts dead center on the front glass of an aquarium.

How did you get it to stay where it is?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

If they are safe, good flow, good nutrients, and mostly good light...

They will stay where they are.

Mine has stayed on the same flat rock since I put it in the tank. It moves around the rock sometimes but never gets off or tries to.

Mine has stayed on that same rock sense it come out of the bag and landed on it. It sat on the bottom of my tank attached to that rock for nearly 2 months, with people telling me that it needed to be higher in the tank but it seamed happy so i left it. When i rescaped my tank about the 3 month mark i placed it higher in the tank, again never moved. Rescaped 3 weeks ago to where it is now and still attached to same rock and spreading out everywhere. I think my high lighting is why it stays where ever i want it, bc i run 2x 250 mh and a evo 200 led on all the way. Its extremely bright. I have noticed though that it don't like high flow like most other mags i've saw.

I would be afraid to add more light to my tank lol. And he is fed almost daily a small piece of krill or some mysis, and always takes it immediately and i never see a waste ball of uneaten food. He's fat and happy.

After how many months can u feel comfortable with you ritteri

After a few weeks if they look and act healthy from what i've read and heard they are pretty hardy and as long as water parameters stay good will live a long time. That first few weeks after shipping is key, to minimise stress and infections. I've also read several stories where they have lived 6-8 months and then rapidly decline for no apparent reason. I have cipro and a HT set up 24/7 just in case it's needed. Even at 6 months I still baby mine to make sure it stays healthy, I don't know if i'll ever be completely comfortable with it in there
