Ritteri Nem, Turn for the worse?

Hey guys. Got a ritteri. Yes i know :debi:. For the last couple of weeks normal inflation, deflation. Not to abnormal. Today it looked like someone had cut ( with scissors) a two inch gash into him, and now that part looks "melty." Other areas of the nem look find. Of course stressed, but not "melty" in appearance. Is it a goner? Should I wait another day? Dont smell an odor from the tank. Would take a pic, but you couldn't tell what it was, as it would be with my crappy phone. Thanks!

Pics? I'm not hopeful based on the information you're giving, but pics might help us give you advice as far as to continue to try or to pull the plug.

Sounds like its trying to split. Its not uncommon for them to do that when they are stressed or are getting ready to die. They will split it hopes that one half will make it. But unless its really healthy, but you said it keeps on inflating and deflating so thats stressed. But here is the million dollor question. What are your tank specs? That will be a great place to start so we can try to help you.

Okay, don't have ammonia, nitrite tests. Also it looks like the split is going right towards the mouth. Almost into it. Part of the nem is hanging off the rock too. Not dangling, but flabbing off the rock, like if it did split it would detach from the rock and parent nem. Do i have to upload a pic to flikr then upload it to here?

Found him this morning face down in the sand. Picked him up and smelled it. Smelled perfectly fine no odor. Placed him down at the bottom near rock rubble. Hopefully he will attach.

You really need to have it at the very top of your tank that gets the most light. They are very light hungry things. Also it needs a lot of flow around it.

Okay, so still didn't look any better when I got back from work. Looked more shredded. Had a little more odor. Well I noticed it had that decay smell like dead snails. And it wad very mangled. It almost was like a peace sign. If you made a stencil and cut that into the nem. It was just sending flesh into my tank. So I pulled it out to prevent furthur pollution. Thanks for all the help, and tips on what to do.
