ro di and drinking water and cost ?

So .Looking at Ro di units and costs , I have read best to stay away from cheaper units from Lowe's home depot as they are not designed for large quantities . I watched one video and they mentioned going to a water store .So I contacted one today , and we'll was kinda shocked ! My kitchen has a point of use water cooler with filtered water what I asked for was Ro unit so I could have Ro water for my water cooler and another line for my di filter !

Sounds simple enough ! However I got an estimate of 1600 dollars today ! I understand this is an expensive hobby but this just seems insane ! Curious what everyone is running or at least what they've spent on a system . Is anyone using it for drinking water ? I understand di water isn't good to drink as your body needs those ions ! Curious what everyone is using , my main reason I figure. If I buy an Ro di unit I can get another use out by shopping my water cooler !

That is absurd! I have a dedicated RO unit for drinking water and one for RO/DI. The waste from the RO/DI goes into my pool and the RO just goes into a saddle on the drain. All in I am probably on at $300 for my whole set up. I understand the basics of plumbing and that is it. If you wanted to use the RO/DI for making RO also you could add a T and valve before it goes into the DI. Just make sure that it is the supply line to the DI and not the waste line

Most decent units come w/ a pitcock to bypass the DI.
Most of us probably paid $2-300 for a decent unit.
Check spectrapure, they have a refurb page that usually has good deals.
BRS is another good choice.

Thanks for responding Im in canada so things cost more and with the exchange the sites youve mentioned it would get crazy , however even if i paid exchange and shipping i would still be way below $1600 so thanks for taking the time to respond

No he wasnt this he emailed me and i was very specific as he asked and he emailed a brouchere and its a filter set up , a drinking water faucet and a storage tank

system can be found here , i dont wish to get into bashing anyone , sure its a great product , plus size filters only require replacement once a year though

In my rodi filter i replace my carbon and sediment filters every 5-6 months and di lasts 4 months so it would take alot of years to equal 1600. Lol

That was my opinion as well , lol ! finding systems here online in canda aka great white north , just looking at an add on di filter or a system where i could tee off the ro water for three to 400 dollars

You should just be able to add a T and ballvalve after the membrane before the di as long as the unit isnt all connected together where there is no room to add one but i have rarely seen a unit built like that.

They have really great systems! I've had mine for a full year and still haven't changed out the filters. I'm due to change them out here soon though. Comes with a 3.5 gallon storage tank too which is nice. I got the alkalinity PH+ for drinking water. When I added my DI canisters I just T'd it off right after the RO membrane and added a check valve so none of the alkaline water would go through when I'm making DI water. Super easy. If you have any questions let me know.

Yes. Depending on which unit you buy, you might need 2 check valves. Because you don't want DI going into your drinking water. I'll post some pictures of the unit I got and how it's set up to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
