i have been thinking about saving up to buy a ro/di filter that would work well for a low price, i dont have much money as i am in high school...im thinking water changes are going to get expensive...what should i get?
i got mine from Ebay. i got an aquasafesystems (ebay sellers name) unit. i have had it for about 9 months now and im still getting 0 TDS. my tap water here is only 80-90 TDS.
Filterdirect is another popular RO/DI seller on ebay. both guys sell setups under $100 before shipping.
I got mine from filterdirect off of ebay. I like it. a bit confusing to set up at first but I just had to sit down and think about what it was doing. Since, its been very easy to use. He also sells float valves that will turn the system off when the water gets too high.
i would be using this simply to purify water, then i would mix it and do regular water changes with it. it wouldn't be actually connected or set up with my tank in anyway...would this work still?
yes.
you could have it will a container that you could then use to mix salt in or use for the top off.
there are fittings/attachments you can get to hook it into the sink or I have mine hooked into the supply line for my washer. I used a "y" attachment one side goes to the washer the other to the RO/DI you would need to have some place to drain the waste water as well. but it does not need to be hooked directly to the tank.
