hi

just bought 6100 system from filter direct how many gallons of water before you need new filters i dont have tds meter yet and need to fill my tank for the first time 60 gal. will the set i have be enough.
thks

I have been on the same filters and resin for over a year now and I'm just now thinking about replacing the filters. Oh and my TDS reading is only 4 as of two days ago.

You won't know unless you get a tds meter. It all depends on your source water TDS. Regardless, replace the carbon and sediment filters every 6 months. The RO membrane is likely good for a couple of years, and the DI will wear out quickly or slowly depending on the TDS after the RO which is directly related to the source TDS.

I don't agree on routinely changing every 6 months.
Number one, it's costly if your on a moderate income level.
Second, if it's working what is there to fix?

A good TDS meter is the only real way to tell if you need to change anything. Readings of 0-5 are good. Above that, you may want to look at what the actual number is to tell what might need to be replaced. To me this makes more sense.

After DI stage, you should be near zero. If you're not, the only way to tell is with a meter. Meters are cheap compaired to throwing away filters and still good DI.

Good luck!

The reason for changing filters every 6 months is to lessen the likelyhood of bactreia growth in the filters and housings. You are removing what residual disinfectant the water has so you are suseptible to bacteria and virus growth anywhere downstream. It can and will happen so its a cheap precaution. That goes even more so if you are also using your unit for drinking water. I have personally sampled more than one RO unit that was rampant with bacteria due to lack of maintenance and from all outward appearances you would never know it without lab testing.

Also, the carbon block(s) will exhaust their capacity to get rid of the chlorine at some point. Measuring TDS won't tell you this. If chlorine gets through to the membrane it will damage it, shortening its life.

thanks for all the info and you are right after a 3G investment, $35 for filters it's not worth being cheap.
