Ro/DI Question

OK - noticed a few weeks ago that my RO/DI filter was producing a 14. So, I pulled the DI and will exchange it for new stuff ASAP. However, while waiting for new DI I changed the three pre-filters before the RO membrane. Now getting reading of 15-16. The tap water reads 135-180. IS this water good enough to use as a top off ( about 1 gallon every day - total of about 90 gallons in the system ) or should I just buy water ( distilled) at Walmart, etc. OR should I be thinking that the RO membrane is used up and change it out. Help please....

Ted, do you know what membrane you have in there (Brand and GPD)? Looks like you are getting around 89 -92% rejection rate which is reasonable depending on the membrane.

aqua safe - model 2004R original membrane. 3 years old now. used mostly for aquarium - had a 6 month period when I used it fro drinking water - under the sink filter cracked. Cant remember what the GPD was.

I think 3 years is pretty old for a membrane if it was used consistently

Yes - I did not realize that it was that old- I will order new Ro membrane ASAP. However, what do you think about using the 14 tds for top off. Or should I buy distilled H2o.

can I use anybody's membrane or should I order on ebay from Aquasafe.

usually anyone's membrane will fit. If you can post a pic with a ruler next to it can can let you know if it's a regular one. And using water with a TDS of 14 is fine.
