Ro-di system

Why are some Ro-di systems listed as not for human consumption? I thought the whole point was to have water completely free of any contaminates

I guess the body needs more than just hydrogen and oxygen. Maybe it has something to do with the need for minerals?????

RO water is fine to drink, and good for you. However DI water is not good to drink it takes out all of the beneficial stuff... Also not sure but the process used to de-ionizes water may be harmful. Perhaps some with more experience in this feild will chime in.

The problem has nothing to do with minerals. It is all about bacteria and liability. Once you filter the chlorine out in the carbon stage theres nothing to keep nasty bacteria from growing in the lines. The easiest way to keep from getting sued when someone drinks from an RO unit that they didnt keep clean is just to put the words not for human consumption on it.

There are also some DI resins that aren't approved for making drinking water. If the FDA hasn't said you can sell it for drinking water purposes then you have to say that.
