ro/di unit question

i have a 5 stage ro/di unit and i bought a 150gpd ro, membrane, well the unit i have came with a 75gpd membrane, and the filter guy sent me a note that said id have to upgrade my flow restrictor to a 150gpd, my question is, why is this? and will the restictor i have work with this 150gpd membrane w/o compramising water quality? i would call him but hes been sick and not answering the phone.

he wants you to upgrade so you get the proper ratio of waste to good water. the ball park figure is 4/1, waste to good. I actually went from a 100 gpd to a 75 gpd because i read that the 75 gpd (Dow Filmtec) was supposed to be one of the best !

I built my own adjustable flow restrictor from parts at lowe's.

can't remember what it's called but I got it at lowe's...

it's brass...that other plastic valve is my flush....although that could probably be used as a restrictor as well.

ok, thanks ill just order the part i need, and then go with the 75gpd dow filmtec after this one is exhausted tyvm for the info !

While you can build one out of nothing other than an adjustable gate valve, you can buy these very inexpensively.

my experience is that u need several of these on hand...to get the ratio @ exactly 4:1...and then you have to cut them sometimes -its a hassle, and expensive...the adjustable valve idea is great ! ,,,then u can recalibrate and fine tune the output from time to time....
