RO/DI unit recommendations

I'm tired of lugging jugs to and fro the fish store...and now ready to buy a RO/DI Unit.

I have a few requirements:

I live in a condo and I'm petrified of overflow. Any suggestions?

I only have a 70 gallon tank and probably don't need more than 5-10 gallons of water per week....

If you don't want an overflow you can either rig a container with a float switch or fill up your cantainer in the bathtub so any accidental overflow goes harmlessly down the drain...

Air Water and Ice is also a sponsor here. They have a great product and great customer service. I've got a 75 GPD unit from them. you can hook it up to your faucet temporally and then remove it when done. It makes about 3 gallons an hour.

I second the filter guys recommendation. They have been very helpful to me and their prices are good. I use the ocean reef 2 but there are cheaper models.

ditto. I have one of their systems that I use with a garden hose adapter, since I cannot have it permenantly plumbed in. I, too, only make about 5-10g per week and their service and support is as fabulous as their systems.

When I had my first RO/DI system I used to fill 5 gal drinking water jugs from the RO faucet next to the kitchen sink by attaching a piece of clear tubing to the faucet. Well after flooding the kitchen not once, not twice but three times, I got smart and installed a laundry sink in the garage. I can set bottles in the sink and if I forget it goes down the drain. Probably the best investment though was a $9 electronic kitchen timer. I know how long it takes to fill a jug so I set the timer for slightly less than that and now I don't overflow anymore! My wife is much happier too

As for RO/DI systems you will be best served by a full size 75 GPD unit. The full sized cartridges will last longer and filter better than most compact type systems plus probably cost less to replace since they are more common. The physical size of a 75 or even 150 GPDsystem is no bigger than a 15 or 25 GPD system but they make the same quality water up to 1000% faster so less waiting around and less time with the kitchen faucet tied up with the RO. Any unit can be portable and put away when not in use if you live in an apartment or rent and don't want to do a permanent installation.

I agree with the vendors suggested so far and would look at their units which start at about $150 or so.

Go with the FilterGuys I have had the 75gpd Ocean Reef +1 system for over a year now and it works amazing and they have great customer service if you have any questions.

I second aquaman67's idea.

I once had a unit plumbed in under my bathroom sink. I would place the buckets i was filling and the reject line in the shower. One less thing to worry about.

Do you have a back porch or balcony? I hook mine to the outside faucet, stick the output in the neck of a 5 gal water cooler jug, water the plants with the RO waste water.

Thanks for all of your help and recommendations. I'm liking the idea of plumbing it into the sink, but having the line run into the bathroom....I'm calling the filter guys.
