I'm picking up my new tank REAL SOON :D and will be needing a ro/di more then ever...

What units are you all using and where did you get them and of course prices???

I need something with a faucet attachment...

Do you have holding tanks as well or just use a faucet attachement??

I know nothing about these but I'd like to get a sufficent unit for a reasonable price, basically something that will do the job and get me by, doesnt have to be the cream of the crop :p

advice/suggestions ??

I defiently need to order one Amy !!!

Perhaps once we both learn a quick bit on them we can share an order and spilt the shipping (sounds good to me)

I was just looking at this site and the prices seem good... : http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm

the $199 one looks good, but what do I know

can anyone chime in ??

You should be able to find one for around $120, new. Look for a 75 gpd one. Try ebay. They should be able to provide the faucet attachment. If not I have an extra brass one. My house doesn't seem to have a single normal faucet (all too old)

Keith,
This is where I got my 110gpd 6-stage RO/DI unit from. I personally feel this is as good as the more expensive units. If a $100 unit and a $300 unit can both can drop your PPMs down to 0-5, then why spend the extra $200? My unit has dropped my PPM from 180 down to 0-2. So I for one believe it's a great unit for a great price. They have good customer service and I believe others in the club have ordered from here too. I'm sure they will speak up if so. Just make sure to spend the couple extra dollars for a TDS meter. Then you will truely see what you're working with. Let me know if you have any questions.

ok I am alreaady lost. I change my fish tanks: the big tank(reef) 20 gallons every two weeks. the mantis tanks once a week, my fish only tank every two to three weeks. i do not need some super 50-60 gallons a day system. I would be wasting water.

Cruella, the system only creates the water when you turn it on (unless it's filling a drinking water tank, but then it stops when full). So there shouldn't be any continuous use or wasting of water. If you see one of these in action, you will realize they only put out a small stream of water at a time (aka not gushing out). So if you think about it, 110 gallons over a course of 24 hours is really not that much at a time. It's a rather slow process and even slower with a smaller unit. One thing to keep in mind though, is these will spend approximately 5 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of pure water. There are many discussions about what people do with this waste water, but most just plumb it to the drain of their sink.

These units are fairly sizable and can be somewhat heavy too, especially if you get the drinking storage tanks. Who knows, maybe they tack on a couple extra bucks for profit. Still a good deal either way when I look at it.

yeah- you will pay at least $25 or more anywhere for shipping. Mine was pretty heavy and in a big box (came with a reserve tank).

Keith and Amy....I'm looking for a larger/more GPD system myself myself (for some reason I need more water ;-). Keep me in mind before you order.

Mister Sheedy - is that like the one used at Benson's? (I don't go back to work until Friday to look myself)

Dow filmtec membrane is one thing to look for. Mine wasn't originally configured with a canister DI, but a cheap vertical, non=refilable one. It was easy to change the waterlines around a little. Unless water is very sedimenty- then having 2 sediment filters before the carbon is not needed IMO. I have always run a 1 micron sediment filter without problems of clogging up real fast.

I took a chance with this one...

...however that's not to say I know anything about these things :p

That looks like a nice unit. 1mic sediment, 5m carbon block a true DOW membrane and a nice vertical DI with excellent resin. All thing everyone should look at before buying, Nice Job!

The only thing I dont see it coming with that some others in that price range may come with is a pressure gauge, float valve and TDS meter.

Who's that guy?

1SickReefer: Thanks :)

True I had to purchase the meter at extra cost. Now I just have to figure out how this thing works

Hi Guys;

Just happen to catch your post and though I'd put my two cents in on RO/DI systems now that we have a little more freedom as RC sponsors.

If you price out what a new set of quality filters and a membrane cost you'll so realize the e-bay systems are low ball all the way around. Two thousand gallon or less capacity carbon block filters generic membranes with no ratings and horizontal DI housings with low capacity. With a quality system you get filters rated for 20,000 gallons of chlorine capacity a Filmtec membrane rated for 50 psi operating pressure. A full sized refillable DI housing with over three times the resin which is top grade. The purity of the water we put in our tank is most important yet we want to cut corners I don't get it.

I bought a SpectraPure 2000 RO/DI system a few years ago and have loved every minute of it. I direct the RO flow to a holding tank under my kithcen sink for drinking water and RO/DI flow right to my auto top-off unit.
