RO Filter leak

I let a friend borrow my RODI filter to fill his tank rather than transporting buckets and it came back with a leak. Its on the waste line before the restrictor where it threads into the RO housing. It appears that it does not have tapered threads. Wrapping the treads with teflon tape hasn't had any impact on the leak. Does anyone know how these fittings seal? There isn't an O-ring or gasket present.

Thanks,

So the tube is connected to the fitting at a compression nut, right? If so, try tightening the nut. Teflon on the threads at the nut won't help on these sorts of fittings.

If it is leaking where the threads screw into the housing, then try screwing the fitting in one more turn. If it's too tight to do that, remove the fitting, strip off the old teflon tape, re-warap it with tape, and screw it in.

I had a simular issue, Lowes had the fitting for about a dollar or so, they also have the slip fittings.

that's very odd that it's not tapered. maybe it got overtightened at some point and there's a tiny crack in the threads? even without a taper, enough tape should seal it (just like with kent float valves).

i might have a spare housing in my junk pile. i think i used to use one as a ghetto 2nd stage on my calcium reactor.

It is in the treads and not the compression fitting. The fitting is tightened so that it bottoms out, and does not get tight until that point. It may just need a new fitting.

I do actually have a second housing, it was one that came with a piggyback kit that was never installed. If it doesn't sell as a kit I'll probably use that one.

If the fitting bottoms out before getting tight, add more teflon tape to the threads, or try a higher quality fitting or higher quality itm you are screwing the fitting in to.
