Reefing On My Mind

Spectrapure is having an RC appreciation promotion... They have 90gpd membranes for $35!!!!!!!

http://www.spectrapure.com/St_RC_Appreciation.htm

I'm going to order a membrane even though mine doesn't need replacing... Especially at that price... :eek1:

Just checking to see if anyone else wanted one or anything else before I order???

I could probably use one for my RO/DI unit, but will a Spectrapure membrane work in my Water General unit? I have no idea if these things are standardized.

I believe they are standardized, and you should replace them once a year-ish. Then again, I didn't know how to replace any of my membranes or filters till this weekend. And I didn't know that I have a 4 stage or that you could put DI resin in a cartridge in one of the chambers till this weekend either. So with all that said-- I don't know, but I did find the sale before Randy.

I have MaxCap SP 5-stage so this is perfect for me. Spectra Pure tests each filter for optimum rejection ratio. I'm normally too cheap to buy one but at this price, count me in (if it is not too late)!

Randy, we ought to give Art a call to let him know.

Text me and remind me to do it tomorrow, ok?

How often should you replace it?

Really it depends upon your diligence on the rest of your filters, and your water source quality... Carbon and Sediment should be replaced about every 6 months, and if you keep up with that maintenance your membrane can last 2 to 3 years even... Some filters have in line TDS meters to tell you when its necessary to change each individual filter... DI resin is a bit different, in that you have to replace it as often as it is depleted... They have color changing resin that changes from blue to brown/black once depleted... I have seen claims that sometimes it doesn't always change...

As a rule of thumb, for my RO/DI maintenance, I will change my Carbon and Sediment filters every 6 months... I will check my DI resin to see if it has changed color, but I will also test the TDS of my Product water monthly... If it is up to 3 TDS I will usually change my DI resin... If my TDS does not go back down to 0 and I have replaced all other filters along with my DI resin, then I will change my membrane...

I replaced my membrane last year, but I'm going to buy one because this is a ridiculous cheap price... If you buy it and store it, make sure that you do not open the sealed package... You will notice that it is damp/wet inside the package... If the membrane dries out, it is no longer any good...

They will fit in all standardized RO and RO/DI units... Water General is one of the standard sizes, but there are some RO/DI's out there that make custom filters, so that you have to use their replacements...

I'll likely be ordering by the end of the week, since there are limited quantities and do not want to miss out...

Yes, Paul did find the sale, and thank you for passing it on... ;)

You can add anything you need from Spectrapure...

Hey guy's I'm not out, just been too busy with other interest lately. At least I think I'm still a paid member?
Randy I would like one if it's not to late.

Yeah, I think you're still a paid member... Membership renews next month, and as far as I recall you paid last year...

Last call for any orders... I'm placing the order tomorrow...

Only ones I have for sure are:

Art~ 1 membrane...
Dave A. ~ 1 membrane...

Anyone else???

Randy, if my RO system sat for a little while (the one I bought last year, not the one that the d-bag gutted) and wanted to start using it again, would you recommend replacing the membrane AND the cartridges or maybe just the membrane? Apparently it didn't have much water through it in the first place, if that's important.

Open up the membrane compartment to make sure it is still wet in there... Just make sure that it hasn't dried out... Run it and test to see what your TDS level is at... You should be fine, but doesn't hurt to check...

Yeah. I cannot do that until Monday at the earliest because I'm out of town. I would suspect that it's dry but I can't be sure...not sure enough to spend $30.

So nevermind. Dang.
