ro membrane housing

So when i started to set my tank up after Katrina i pulled my RO filter out of storage and attempted to put it together. I could not figure out how the membrane housing sealed together. I ended up putting a crap load of teflon tape on the threads and forcing it to screw on. After a while it started to drip again. The system is Coralife PureFlow II. I ordered a new membrane housing from airwaterice recently. When i put my membrane into the new housing all of the water shoots out of the waste water side. By looking at the new housing i was able to figure out that all i was missing one my old housing was an o-ring which i easily replaced. I would still like to use my new housing just because it looks better. My conclusion is that i have the wrong membrane for this housing can any one conferm this. My membrane is a osmonics tfm-24. I contacted airwaterice and they were clueless.

Did you have the flow restrictor installed on the waste line? That is what creates the backpressure and forces the water through the membrane. Oh, by the way, was the membrane allowed to dry out while it was stored, if so it is most certainly bad, once wetted, membranes should not be allowed to dry out or they are toast.

I am not real sure what you are talking about when you say flow restictor. All i did was disconnect the lines as they were on the old housing and reconnect them to the new housing. The membrane was purchased new after the storm. All i did to the membrane was slide it out of the old housing and into the new one.

Then it sould like the membrane is not fully seated inside the housing and water is bypassing the membrane to waste. Remove the membrane, check that all o-rings and gaskets are in place, clean and not rolled over then push it back in tightly, seating it in the housing.
