RO System Help

Travis, when you come over to my house after the meeting I can let you use the one I have on mine, I can't use this unit while in this house anyways so it's going to waste. Unless somebody here wants to give me a couple hundred for a 100gpd RO/DI w/ double pass DI unit. =o) minus a garden hose adapter that is...
 
Was it supposed to come with it? Cause I would complain if it was supposed to come and didn't. I'm getting fed up with buying aquarium companies that market a working product only to find that it doesn't actually work....

My inlet hose is bare hose. There's absolutely nothing on the end of it. No male or female connector. Sorry for being so vague in description, but I can't think of any better way to describe it. I would prefer to get the female connector so I can hook it up to my washer spout.

Technically, yes the connector was supposed to come with it, but it's a used unit from a friend (long story). He used to have it hooked up to his sink, but I'm afraid when it was taken down that the connector might have got ripped off.
 
One last thing. Does anyone in Stillwater have a TDS Meter that I can borrow when I get this hooked up? I would like to test the input, output, and rejection rate.
 
It is probably held in place with a compression ring. If you trot across the street to Lowes and get the collar and a compression ring then the faucet adapters are usually available as well. If you can't find them, buy a cheap waterbed fill kit, it comes with a variety of faucet adapters.
 
Hmm... Interesting. I might just take the hole unit to Lowe's and ask a sales clerk to "help me fix this". But I would really like to go in there with a little knowledge so I can try to not even use an employee. Thanks for the info rdonchann. That's all pretty much Greek to me, but if I see it, I'll know what it is. It looks like some google image searching is needed. Thanks again.
 
Travis, you need to own a TDS meter, if you dont, you cant tell if the unit is working properly.

Travis, the line should be 1/4 , so just go and get the adapter for an icemaker. They should have it at lowes, and it should be all plastic. Plastic shouldn't matter since it is on the inlet side of the unit though.

I'll be getting one ASAP. I'm not going to use my unit until I get one. I just would like to borrow one to do some tests with.
 
The 1/4 inch part is correct. It is better to use the plastic ferrule, but a brass compression ring works fine. You can get adapters at Lowe's (or your local megahardware/homeimprovement store) to connect it to just about anything. I used a saddle valve (not the self piercing type!) for mine. Plastic is better for the compression ring/ferrule because brass will eventually cut the plastic piping.

Hey Travis what if i just so happened to have one of the pieces you need? ;) Hmmmm wouldn't that be something? PM me an address and i'll send it to ya. The one i have is brass, but i have the insert for the plastic line that keeps it from being damaged.

Thanks all for the help. And thanks for the offer dugg. That would be the part, but.....

I dropped by Lowe's last night and was wandering aimlessly at the water filter aisle just in case. I was about to leave to the plumbing when a sales associate walked by. I asked if he had a second and he was VERY friendly. I took the hose with me and said I need this part to fit a washer outlet. He said, he knows exactly what I need. In about two minutes, the guy has walked to the plumbing section and picked up all the supplies. He takes it over to the PVC cutting machine and says, this is what you do.... He had grabbed brass fittings since it was cheaper than plastic and a plastic compression ring. He takes all the parts, opens the package and said. "Knock out this piece of brass here....." *Whack with a tool and it pops out*, ".....put this brass piece on first, the compression ring, this thing goes in the hose, and it screws together *screws it together*. It was just what I was looking for.... Sort of. He had a different idea of where on the piping it was going. I explained it to him a little better, and in 30 seconds we had all the parts that I needed. $5 and some change later, I'm out the door with a way to fix the RO Unit. I'm impressed with this guy. Extremely nice, fast, and even does the work for you, hands you the packages to be scanned in, and returns to work! Unfortunately, I didn't feel like much effort actually hooking up the RO Unit last night, but I made enough of an effort to have it ready.
