so i ordered a ro system from the filter guys, and was wondering whats the best way of conecting it? any ideas? pictures will help alot! thanks .:strooper:

I have the Ocean Reef +1 from the filter guys. I bought a faucet adapter from them. It screws on the faucet from the slop tub. You just need to make sure that you have around 60 to 75 PSI. You can also use the saddle valve, but in most cases you cant get enough PSI......I like the faucet adapter.

I used the same connector form Lowes and hooked a line splitter to my washing machine cold water feed
I just ran the drain line into the washing machine drain hole

Questions are:
Where do you plan on putting the unit?

What are the closest COLD water sources?
- Sink, Toilet, Washing, machine, Copper Pipe, Hotwater heater?

Where is the Closest Drain?
- Under sink, Washing Machine drain, outside?

What are you collecting water in?

Do you want a float valve installed?

Hello, I'm also getting my RO/DI setup installed. I too wanted to hook into my cold water feed via a "line splitter" off the single spigot and then run my waste into the drain pipe of the washing machine. Are you having any problems with that placement and hookup ? Another thread there was a comment about the washing machine drain only working when the machine is on (huh ?) but I thought I better double check before I got a mess on my hands.

Are you concerned at all about having your saltwater tank reservoir so close to potentially lethal cleaning supplies ? I assume you can extend the RO/DI waste/supply lines without any loss of pressure, so you don't have to be so near to the "chemicals". I'm using a Kent Marine pressure solenoid along with their float valve - is there any benefit to adding a shut off valve between the washer cold line and the RO unit if I extended the supply/waste lines ?

Sorry if I hijacked your thread, just seemed like an appropriate place to make my inquiry......:fish1:

The Drain hole is open all the time, it just dumps into a drain line under your house.

OK - Washer connections look like this:

Put one of these on the Blue/Cold water side:

Washer Cold hose goes on one side and the line to RODI unit to the bib on the other side.

Now: there is a Hole where the drain line sits:
Just put the line right down the hole next to the washer drain line.
I would put 2 feet of tube down the hole so it stays. I also used a tie wrap to hold it in place

If I recall that thread they were talking about running the RODI drain line inside the washing machine to fill it up for a load of laundry. The problem with that is that if you’re not paying attention it will overflow because in order for it to drain it has to be on.

You should have no concerns as long as you are careful. I wouldn’t be slinging detergent all around though either :D

I would definitely advise doing this. I wouldn’t want to keep pressure on my RODI. IMO it’s just to cut down on the chance that one of those plastic lines will bursts.

If you want to hard plumb it to the cold water line use an Add-A-Line Compression Full Slip Valve. 20 bucks and safer than saddle valves. ;)

I just finished hooking up my RO/DI to my coldwater washer line and using the washer drain. Mine is wokring perfectly. The only thing that I did differently was using a garder hose splitter with shut off valves built into it.

All depends on where you are setting it up, either way PRDubois or drummereef have it covered.

I suggest a spot big enough for a big rubbermaid type drum. Water on demand sounds great, but as slow as an RODI unit is, a reserve is what you need sooner than later.
