Any chance I could see your setup to get a better understanding of the system?

Sure. Let me know when you want to come by.

I have the same unit you are looking at.

I will pm you the link to the ebay auction.

Sisterlimonpot,

"RODI running directly to the sump with a float valve... that has potential hazard written all over it."

I agree there is SOME hazard ( snails, cords or tubing holding the valve open ).

However, I ran mine for two years directly from the RO/DI with no problems.

I have since switches to a gravity feed from a 35 Gal brute trashcan 1 floor above the sump.
I am still running the same FV. It has been almost 5 years now, and I have never even cleaned it.

SO if my FV were to stick, I would get a warning hours before water on the floor because my RC3Pro has a sump float switch that warns me 3-4 inches before it overflows.

My system is over 300 Gallons, so even 30 gallons RO/DI dumped in would not be fatal.

I am currently using RO/DI water in Loveland. I have been using it for about 3 months. Before that I used Prime and treated tap water. To be honest I haven't noticed any difference in my reef tank since making the switch. Kinda feel like I wasted money on my RO/DI unit.

Well like they say you might be one of the lucky ones that didn't need it. but on the bright side your ro membrane will last a lot longer than someone like me in Cheyenne that have TDS higher than 40.

jpc673,

I think I have a good understanding of the unit now. Thanks, but I dont think I need to come by and see it.

ohh, and thanks for the e-bay link!
No prob. I missed out on a group buy and was bummed until I found it on the bay.

Thanks Christina. Im going to wait to set up my RODI unit until I move to Denver and get everything set up. I think my LR that is marinating is fine on dechlorinated tap water here in FC.

Your city water supply must be stellar

Your city water supply must be stellar

I use tap water! My reef is awesome if i must say so!:bum: I also use prime for my water and allow the water to sit out as long as possible before adding fresh to top off the tank!

I would never risk not knowing what is coming out of my tap in Arizona... crazy stuff has been seen in it.

I used tap water in Ft. Collins for about 4 years with great results.

I would let it sit (dechlorinate) for a couple days, and I would add Kalkwasser mix for top-off. TDS out of the tap was <5.

As a matter of fact, my tank did better at that time than when I moved to Denver and started a using RO/Di system.
