RO water

Does anyone buy RO at any of those water places around in most towns. I'm paying $.80 a gallon at our lfs and want to spend less and not travel 20 minutes.

The store I'm looming at not only run the water through an RO unit but also about 6 other processes.

Any experience or concerns would be appreciated.

I have heard of people using them before, I would check the level on a TDS meter before putting any in your tank.

I've been contemplating that for a while as well as mixing my own salt. I'm confident I can mix consistently just haven't made the plunge yet.

I will also need to get a 50gallon container.

But in the meantime I was seeing I'd it's an option. The difference being $.80 v $.30.

Thanks

I still don't make my own salt b/c I use my RO/DI outside and it seems like more of a pain to mix. I would have to do so in my garage and just don't feel like it. However.... I think they are a must for top off. I was thinking I wouldn't need one when I went from my 34 to 120. But then I realized how much a pain and how expensive it was when I have 2+ gallons of evap a day!! So I bought a used RO/DI and replaced all the guts.

The problem with the various machines around town is that you rarely know when they are serviced and how good the membranes are. Beyond that though, it's the same as at your LFS, where you also often don't know how good the membranes are. :)

But, $150-200 for a RODI unit is about 600 gallons of water from the machine. Depending on your tank size, you repaid the purchase before you're even part way through the membrane and DI resin.

I used the Glacier machines for about one year, before I got sick of it, and bought an RODI system from air/water/ice. Oh was it worth it!!!

We have a store locally that filters their water through 7 different processes. The huge filtration system is set behind glass so it's visible. You take your jugs and fill them there. RO is just one of the processes it foes through.

This is what I'm wondering about. I'll have to ask about TDS.
