RO Water

Hey everyone, i just want to say thanks to everyone at the meeting tonight. It was my first one, and me and my girlfriend had a great time. It was nice to put some faces with some RC names. I was happy to see a few people i have met before and also met a few new ones. Plus i got a nice zoa colony and a frag at the raffle. The raffle was HUGE! thanks to everyone!

Well now to the actual post ;). I am installing my first DIY sump on saturday and i am going to have to do a large water change since i have to drain the old sump and the display tank more that half way so i can pull it off the wall. I have to put the sump in through the back since its so long. I usualy get my RO water from exotic, but i can only get 20g free. I will probably need around 40g/50g for everything, so if anyone localy has there own filter that i could bum some RO water off of just incase i cannot get enough at exotic, that would be great. I might not need to bum some water, but i might :D . Please LMK.

Well three things...
1) Coral Reef Shop offers unlimited (As far as I know) RO water
2) I can spot you 35 Gallons of RO I just made tonight if you want to come and get it. (I80 and Antelope)
3) I would personally save the water you take out and put it right back in. I'm not a huge fan of giagantic water changes on well established systems. Plus you are modifying the system so the less you change at a shot the better IMO.

1 thing at a time for stability.

Let me know about #2 if you are interested.

I would pick one source and stick with it exclusivly to cut down on unknown reliability factors.

Unfortunatly, I am stuck in an apartment myself and have to rely on external sources. I use the water store next to Wonder Aquarium on Kiefer Blvd in the Rosemont area.

The lady who run it is super laid back and very friendly, alway there with great hours and a 24hour vending machine for the hours they are not open. The next best thing to not having your own RO-DI unit.

I would not suggest random sources, but in this case can understand. FYI....

Yes, i have heard about CRS giveing "all you can get" water, its just pretty far from my house hehe. I get my water from exotic because they are very close to home, and i have gone there for years, since there other store on florin by the big wally world. I hate large water changes also, but i got some new LR about a week ago. i would put the water back into the system but its high in ammonia and nitrite since i aquascaped. and its taken a while to go down, otherwise i would use the old water. I didnt get a chance to say hello again at the meeting steve, but i might take you up on 15g or so if no one in my area has any. I will let you know :)

Keep on top of your nitrates......if they get out of hand I have a fix for it, but will not suggest it until (if) you need it.

I added some live rock once and pulled a total newbie and forgot about the spike.........it got up to 50ppm.

The nitrate are not that bad, but ammonia and nitrate are around .03mg/L. If you are talking about sugar doseing, no thanks! but if there is something else you are talking about, P< me just to ease my mind :). Tank is normaly very stable, but when i aquascaped, i added about 20lbs new, and about 15lbs new sand, so the DSB was sturred up quite a bit. I am a little worried about the new sump though. I am already seeing a spike in the nitrite and ammonia, so im thinking about tossing the old sump sand and not reuseing it in the new refuge. Dont want to make the spike worse. I got a mix of sand from the sand swap that i will use to seed the new sand. (I was hopeing for a better sand swap). there was only 3 of use that swapped sand :).

I used the sugar dosing to fix this problem, and have used it successfully, but yes was talking about that.

Quick, one time solutions such as this.......if done properly.......no problem, however I may be suffering from long term effects of the sugar dosing.....but have not conclusively determined that yet.

Water Changes are the best remedy however, but if you read my other post .....I live in an apt......so large WCs for me can be a PITA.

I have thought about sugar dose, but am trying to stay away from that. Id rather just wait it out, and let the process go el-natural, if things stay in range. But once i finish my new sump install and things dont settle out after a week or so, i will let you know, since i have never had to dose sugar and i would need some pointers. The tank has LPS and softies, they have not shown any ill effects from the high levels due to the recent aquascape.

Dots... Thanks for the freebies tonight!!!
I used to live in an apt and ran my Typhoon III Ro sytem right in my apt...

That's fine bobbyblank, I promise if you come over I'll have some other treats for ya, no one goes home empty handed (Ususally)...

Does your apartment have a patio with a faucet for a hose????

When i picked up some cheato off you i never saw the arcade......oh wait, that because you were showing off you awsome nanos :D . I will probably take you on the offer, because im going to deplete all my RO water that i have and will not be able to get more from exotic for my top off and ext. Plus i cant resist freebees ;). I lost you phone number and address, PM me and i will call you later. Thanks for the help.

I saw the Arcade! Didn't get to play though.... Was more impressed with the crazy automated and computerized tank! Cool stuff Steve! Thanks again for the cheato. The new flood Lights balzing away. Hopefully I'll have some to give out next meeting!

I just got around to reading this post again... :(
You should have PM'ed me for my contact info...

Edwin, I used the water hookups in where we kept the washer and dryer in the apt... Don't live in an apt anymore... Have a house down the road a bit...

Bobby, next time you are over I'll be sure to show it to ya.. :)
How did the switch over go??

PS: WPnorton,
Glad to hear you liked the place :)
Come on over again and you can play any arcade game on it you want.. :)

NP steve, i would have PM'd ya but i was VERY busy. It was a horrible tansfer. It took forever and was exausting. my pump was broken in the process, then i got a part, and it broke again. Crappy molding job on MAG's part. They i barrowed a pump from someone but i stuck my hand in the H2O to move some stuff around when i was zapped. I tought it had to been the borrowed pump leaking some volts into the water, but im still getting a small zap. I cannot figure it out! My frogspawn and hammer look very bad, and a one shroom rock. Hope they make it. But the sump is in and working good. Ill try to get some pictures up.
