Well I didn't really think about it, but the styrofoam has a tinfoil reflective material on it, should I take it off or paint it black? It might be a good thing to reflect the light from the bottom?

I used black starboard in my tank. I wouldn't try peeling anything off because you might damage the foam and you want it as smooth and flat as possible. If you're using sand, I wouldn't bother. If going bare bottom or super thin sand, I'd just spray paint the foam.

Nice light, you can also use PVC sheet bought at many of the local acrylic shops. When i was debating going bare bottom that's what i looked at.

There has been a fair number of issues with starboard leeching stuff lately just a FYI. PVC we know if safe.

I have seen sand held down with silicone on the Web and a video.

Seems like a good idea, but I rather not glue anything to the tank, in sake of resale value. Just going to go bb and mat the bottom with zoas.

I wanted very thin so went with 1/4". I got it from Tap Plastics.
