Got a little distracted with the holiday, but didn't completely forget. Anyway, wanted to toss up a thread about my progress with my little Rock Beauty.

Purchased 11-15-2008 and is still alive and doing great today.

Pic of him the first day being added to the QT;

And here is a video I just took;

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Gorgeous Angelfish!! How big is it now? 6+ inches?
Western, he's a bit over 3", probably closer to 3.5". Growth rate has been a little slower then I would typically expect from an Holacanthus angel. But as long as he/she is happy and healthy, no complains. :D

Nice! Oh, okay. You caught him yourself or did you buy him from a store?

Main diet consists of PE Mysis, Scallops, nori, and fresh clams. Nori is offered daily, with scallops (diced) or mysis being offered at least once each daily. The clams are more once a week treats, and angel formula is supplemented 3x a week.

AquaKnight - beautiful and intriguing fish! Congratulations on your excellent husbandry!
From the look of the video, it appears this is in your 240 (not a reef)?
I have wondered what one of these would do in a reef tank. I know their natural diet is sponge, but in your experience have you seen any other behavior that would be troublesome in a reef tank beyond the demise of sponges?

Correct, it's in my 240, which is only a fowlr (a few indestructible shrooms). Previous to that, she was in my 125, which was set up as an 'angel reef' along with a Blueface Angel. The tank mainly had several types of photosynthetic gorgonians and SPS. The Blueface was limiting me to them, most LPS, sofites, and zoas were obviously out. Vid of the old 125;

Being the Holacanthus that the Rock Beauty is, I doubt one would work in a general reef setting. In a SPS dominant tank, I bet one would be fine, but almost all angels in that setting are (look at Copps tanks).

Congratulations ! I Have had one for a little over 2 yrs now as well. I bought it to replace a flame angel. I started reading up on them and feared it would live a short life.

I am happy to say it has been my healthiest fish and eats everything.

i had one for over a year in a mixed reef. She wouldnt pick on my corals. I had several sponges in the tank for her to pick at. I eventually traded her in when she got to big for my tank. Amazing fish.

Glad to hear more positive reviews on these, all I've heard for years has been negative. But yours seems to have avoided the nutritional related ailments that usually kill these fish. Sponges in the tank, probably..
How is it in regards to its neighbors?

Matthew
