Rock "Cooking"--a dangerous trend or something worthwhile?

I have seen some threads that certainly recommend it as a very safe way to start a reef tank. I believe the cooking advocates simply don't want to take any chances. When you say destructive to the rock what do you mean by that? During my poor husbandry stint I ruined my sandbed as well. So I'm BB also. One of these days I may try the sand bed again. I know lot more about what makes them work because of threads like this so keep it up!

What I have a problem with is the fact that whenever an algae issue comes up, there's a certain crowd that starts chanting "Cook your rocks, cook your rocks" before even asking the most basic questions.

Have you seen the numerous threads which say you WILL have algae problems unless you cook your rocks? It's the sequel to the exploding sandbed

You keep on saying things like that, but I've never noticed anybody doing that. Could you link to some threads where you think this happened?

I'm sure this won't be the first time some of you guys see this:

Let's try not to forget it.

Dave,

You need to change your sig. Don't say that 4 out of 5 experts disagree. Say that 4 out of 5 experts agree that the 5th one is wrong. However, unfortunately, the other 4 disagree about HOW or WHY the 5th one is wrong. :)

(I didn't make this up, this came from the professional dog showing circuit).
